Here are a few pics of the small wheel attachment made for my grinder. Nothing groundbreaking, just the same idea as what's out there now. I made the wheel out of aluminum. It seem to work ok.

Can't say the same for the platen attachment. The whole alignment thing is eluding me big time. But it's ok. I've decided that it was the end of my tool making days. Maybe a few simple things here and there but I will now buy the tools I need, mainly a KMG or Bader grinder. And a few others like a drill and a mill that I would not have built anyway.

Am I the only one who seems to spend more time on tools than what I make with them. :(

Thanks for looking.

roller blades, huh. I bought some 1/4" bearings today for a different project.

This makes me want to make one. the one Rob sells looks pretty complicated for a high school shop, but I think i could do that one.

You should be ok. I did this all with the lathe and my very limited experience. Bored the holes for the bearings first and milled the diagonal slots after.

That looks great! Simple and effective...you can't beat it. The metal rollers will work fine..they don't produce as nice of a finish...but they do produce a much more accurate radius. There are several custom Bicycle makers that use metal wheels for coping tubing because it is more precise than the rubber wheels. Those guys are very picky about precise fits and go to great lengths to achieve them.

Yes, Keith...CNC machines really open the options on part design. If I were to make these on manual machines....the design might look very similiar to these pics...and there's nothing wrong with that in my book.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

No Rob, thanks YOU for the inspiration for this. I am glad to know that the AL rollers will work fine.

Now I just need to get better at the lathe to get a nice press fit on the bearings. Those are a little loose and it sounds loud and there is a little friction. Not enough to build significant heat though.

Good work Pad. :thumbup:and dont worry i seem to spend what limited time i have making the equipment rather than the knives, so your not alone:grumpy::D

Pad,
I was trying to look at your pictures and can't see them. What happened to them?
Thanks for the help.

Patrice,
Thanks for fixing that. I need to make one for myself. I tracked down the bearings today.

Fred
