Hello all - I'm looking at building a small wheel attachment for my homebrew 2X72 grinder I built from looking at photos of KMG. Can anyone provide the inside to inside dimensions between the two bearings? That would allow me to make my attachment so it would also fit the commercial KMG small wheels.

Thank you to any for info,

Just my take on it, but I would order a small wheel with bearings and make the arm to fit it. That way you will know the fit is spaced right.

I plan to make my own small wheels also - I ordered a pack of 10 bearings of the same part number as one manuf gives for his replacement bearings.

With a lathe, turning the small wheel axle should be easy.

2.684" from inside bearing to inside bearing on my BMW 1/2" wheel.

2.684" - thank you. Yep, I've got a small 10X22 Grizzly lathe. Boy, is that thing handy. I use it for something 3 or 4 times/wk at least. I use the milling machine less often, but it's still handy. Expensive toys? Yep, but less expensive than hanging out in bars.... or a bass boat:)

what will you use as the contract surface on the small wheels you are going to manufacture?

I've played around a bit with this - one idea is to use a hose about the right diameter to slip over the roller. While I know it's not the best to grind on plain metal, I have done that a bit. Just for the small amount of grinding it takes for finger grooves, and required radius, it does seem to work ok.

I've also wrapped the roller with a very few layers of 2" wide duck tape - that works pretty good for no more often than I grind.

Still working out solutions.
