SMALLER CHINOOK

Personally, I think the original size Chinook, with and FRN handle would be a winner!!!!:D

Dude, Chinook Jr. Lightweight! :D

S30V or VG10, Delica ambi clip.

Has the whole world gone mad?

Chinook Jr., Yes, O.K.

X-Large Chinook, Yes, Great!

Lightweight Chinook? Its an oxymoron. A lightweight Chinook would no longer be a Chinook!

IMHO, Pachucks

I agree. I think the Chinook needs the thick G-10 and liners and strong lock bar. If you made one with FRN it would be more like "Nanook" or "Ninook" maybe. We need a Chinook Jr. and a "Meganook". Same construction, just different sizes. I think the Meganook would be the closest thing possible to a FB Bowie knife that many can carry. Unfortunately for me, in my state, the regular Chinook is the closest thing to a FB bowie I can carry.

Pachuks. No "FRN? Por Que? Is it the weight in the Chinook that is desired, or the strength? We can achieve strength without the weight.

Sorry to hijack your post Sal, but for ME anyway, it IS the weight of the Chinook that I really like. Maybe not while it's clipped inside my pocket, but when it's in my hand, it could weigh another pound, and that'd be ok with me!. It just...Feels soooooo...SOLID!

...And a "Lefty-friendly" Chinook WOULD be GREAT!!.:).

I would like to see a full sized or XL Chinook with the compression lock.

Lock is great as is. Change it to C. Lock if you want.

Sal, 1) Are you saying you can make FRN as strong as G-10/steel liners? 2) I also like a little weight, it just "feels" better. (Not that I'm against light weight, it just depends, you know?) 3) I do feel G-10 is "grippier." (usually)

Sal, I think that the weight is inherently beneficial if you are really going to clip carry a knife on a strenuous hike. I get a sense of security thinking that it is going to take a LOT of jumping up and down and falling upside down to get a Chinook to jump off of my waistband. Of other knives, I have a far lesser sense of security.

Plus, I am still of the breed that does not like FRN. I'll take micarta or carbon fiber. Please, no aluminum.

I know you are going to blare in again about price point. But just give me a Chinook with a nice green canvas micarta grip. Go to D2 on the blade steel if you need to drop the price point.

Right on! For that matter, how about making a larger Mouse or Ladybug? Everything will wind up in the middle.

Well Sal. Will we be seeing a new Smaller model Chinook.? (SOON.).It,s been awhile now. & still waiting. :D

Interesting points of view, thanx for the input.

G-10 does have more traction than FRN to be sure. There are no plans for an FRN Chinook at this time. We do have a design revision that is lighter (by 2 oz), but we're a little behind on the protos and we'd like James to play with it for a while before we take it any farther.

We probably wouldn't begin a design for a smaller one until we satisfied that we've refined the pattern to serve all needs and eliminate complaints.

There is a demand for a Spyderco folding Bowie and the Keating design works well. In addition, James is one of those guys that is always improving the design, (CQI) so We'll see refinements for a while.

I will say that it's possible, but not in the next year.

Thanks , Sal. I,ll keep waiting. = & = Did you say FOLDING BOWIE.!!!!!!!. Can you give any info on this. or PIC,S. Thanks. Gary. Now a Folding Bowie Might help ease the wait.for the smaller chinook.:D

I dunno about you guys... I didn't like how the clip becomes a upswept trailing point.
Doesn't it affect piercing ability?
If there's a folding bowie coming, can it be a more regular clip?

I think Sal meant that the Chinook is the knife that Spyderco's using to fill the "folding bowie" niche...

Well I kinda get that likely Sal is refering that to the Chinook, but I said that because I don't mind a new folding bowie.

A smaller version would be very cool! I have the big guy.., and it's a great knife..., but I'd definitely get the little guy if Sal makes it....
