Smaller heavy duty assisted opener?

The PackRat is a great knife. It just melts into your hand
and the blade profile is very useful. It has ( IMHO ) the best
designed liner lock out there. The AO kicks nice and the lock up
is fantastic. The liner lock has two points of contact. Against the
blade tang as well as tucked under and against the flipper it's self.

That is the way all liner locks should look! I don't pay enough attention to my pack of Pack Rats!

Not that I recommend spine whacking, but I think you would be hard pressed
to get that one to fail. ;)

And yes, you need to pay attention!! :p

:D

I would recommend that you look at either the Emerson A100 or the Mini version, depending on which size suits you better. I have the Mini, and the lockup is by far the strongest I have ever seen. It feels much more solid than even the ZT 350 (which is a great knife). And the ergos are excellent.

Thanks for all the reply's and picks guys, this thread is turning out great!

I do really like that Pack Rat. Can any of you compare the Sandvik 14C28N to something more common like 440C, ATS-35, VG-10, AUS8 (or 6) or the like?

I had forgot all about the Nitrous Stryker too. Can you still get the M2 bladed ones? Any idea on the price?

And also I do have a SnG that I carry quite a bit, I am really looking for an AO that is someplace between that and the Leek, which seams to be the suggestions I am getting.

Keep 'em coming.

Anybody try the Benchmade Mini Barrage Assisted Axis Lock? It looks pretty sweet.

The Mini Barrage is an amazing knife. When that blade shoots out it makes a noise like thunder in the montains--just a hard, solid thunk. You know it's there. Very sharp too. I liked it so much that I bought the fullsize too.

I had a chance to hold a zt350, I believe it is good for what you are asking for. Just as long as you don't mind liner locks! Even If you do, the liner is really thick so I doubt you will have any problems...There are always striders and sebenza's...

Yeah, but they aren't assisted like the OP asked for ;)

Its between 440C and AUS8 imo, but seems a bit harder and possible a tad more brittle. The brittle isnt so bad, it sharpens to a fine edge nicely and takes a bit more work to remove the burr, and seems to wear really well which the burr would indicate. Never had a spec of rust or corrosion.

The Benchmade Apparition (right spelling?)
It is "heavy" and it opens with a loud "snap"
You can remove the torsion rod if you so desire for the days around the non-knife personnel.
It has "Filework" rear of the handle and 154CM blade a touch longer than a Leek.
Highly recommended.
( It is weighty I would advise you to handle it,before you buy)
Have a look at it.Bit dearer than a Leek but worth it.

If you want heavy duty, take a look at the Benchmade Mini-Rukus. Built like a tank, Axis lock, and AO. Pretty expensive though.

Thanks, I already have one f those though. Maybe I should just get it out of the case, instead of buying something new...nah. :D
