Smallest Busse acceptable for chopping?

Then I would look for a SJ or SJTac. The latter will be much better on the pocket and a better chopper. Not quaite as godd at smaller task but for the money its 6" blade is all you need IMO for 90% you can also run around and it wont pull your pants down like the cg ash1:D

TANK BUSTER!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

satin jack (to me) is a bit light for chopping, unless your going with the sjtacle. even then I'd go with a choiless tank buster.

I was surprised how well SAR5 was chopping. Bigger SARsquach SE is amazing chopper too ... and then .... CGFBM - to some it is still a small knive ;) :D

Hellrazor is thin, but will most certainly chop. 7" blade .187"

:thumbup: HR is a surprisingly effective chopper, especially with a thinned convex edge. other than that, tank buster, SFNO, and the SARSquatch are all excellent

Assault Shaker!

(Actually, I find the SAR-4 does a fairly decent job in a pinch, but then that's what I have a SAR-8 for...)

I've tried doing some batoning/splitting with a rat tail... it was a weeeee bit short. then it was onto to some sweet succulent cold steel

tip is way to thin on it though for beating on, and it ended up bent. being pretty soft (56rc?) it bent back with some hand+rock force.

for 1-2" limbs almost any of the busse's with a full grip will manage, especially those in 1/4" thickness. any model that's 1/4" with a blade length of 5" or more will work. 4" and under makes it hard to baton and will likely have a smaller grip which reduces the overall weight.

anything below the batac is gonna be a little small:

anyone tried the boney active duty for chopping? it's thinner edge would make up for some of the weight loss in the smaller package...

If your aiming for satin jacks you might want to go for the competition finish for such small branches, but for anything thicker I'd go with the sjtacle. If you going with the satin jack size, I'd probably go with the sar4. You lose so much edge to the larger choil on such a small knife. The drawback with the sar4 being the massive giant flared pommel. 25% of the handle is unneeded for normal use. The batac shown here is one of the heaviest models, the 2007se. The normal edition was 3/16" where the se version is .220. It makes a huge difference, the se feels way more substantial in the hand.

The alternative in the satin jack size is the hellrazor, tankbuster, sar5 and basic 7. The sar5 has a grip that would be hard to manage with slippery hands and no gaurd, and the basic 7 and helrazor are both considerably lighter then the tank buster. The tank buster is like holding a 2 pound weight, it is extremely solid and will have the most versatility in chopping because of the additional weight.

Despite it's size, the boss jack could probably manage it's own with 1-2" branches. It's thick and fairly substantial for it's small size, if you brought the edge down to 18" degree's per side you could probably get through a 2" branch in 4 swings.
