Wed evening (20th) I PM'ed Smartblade and wrote I would like the Large Damasacus Sebenza 21 and if he could send it FedEx 2 day so I would have it by Christmas. Thursday morning (21st) he sent his PayPal info, and so I sent the money.
Every so often PayPal takes the money and reviews the transaction to verify they are complying with federal regulations. This process can take up to 72 hours. In the meantime, they don't give the money to the seller, it's pending. Of course, this is hampering me getting the knife for Xmas. While this is going on, other people are wanting the knife. I tell Smartblade if he wants to back out, no hard feelings, I 100% understand. He said "nope".
So I tell Smartblade I am going to send the money again, should go thru immediately. Then ship the knife and when the first payment goes thru just refund it. This takes some trust on both sides here as you can imagine all the ways this can go sideways.
I send a second payment and PayPal puts a pending hold on that one as well. So now I'm really bummed, I tell Smartblade again if he wants to sell to another buyer I understand, even tho I really wanted that knife. He said lets just ride it out, we talk on the phone for a bit to make back-up plans. I call PayPal again only this time I get someone who knows what that are doing and says this should not have happened and will be fixed within 1 hour.
30 minutes later Smartblade has both payments, goes straight to a FedEx and ships the knife 2 day, then promptly refunds the first payment. I get the knife the next day, Fri the 22nd.
The knife was exactly how he described and the action is just lovely.
During this PayPal nonsense, Smartblade was always courteous and professional. He could have backed out and sold it to another, I might have since this PayPal thing was starting to sound like a scam.
