Smatchet??

I think Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry still makes them. I had a handle "C" with a 10 inch blade. Still kicking myself for selling it.

Knivesshipfree.com has the Bark River Clax in stock.

There is no question that a Smatchet cannot answer. Boker made a cool Applegate/ Fairbarn smatchet for a while- I don't know if they do anymore though.

When I saw this I had to laugh...reminded me of the classic "I need a smatchet-type blade, but not a smatchet" thread a few months back.

That barkie is a thing of beauty.

Nope, the Boker Smatchet is OOP and they are going for $250-300 on everyone's favorite auction site. :jerkit:

I have one of the original run of Boker smatchets in 440c,think they only made 1200 of them. After the limited run Boker switched steels,420c ?,to make it more affordable. My wife bought me one because she threw a fit about me going on an extended fishing trip with the guys',I quickly forgave her!!That must have been 10 years ago now.Still married, and she still buys me knives from time to time, pretty cool eh!Anyway,I digress,Esav is right, don't play with a sharp smatchet whilst in your cups!

I read on wikipedia that the smatchet was designed for self-defense. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smatchet. If this is true, and the source being Wikipedia, I can't say it is, what do you guys think of the smatchet for utility use? Can you use it as one would a machete for clearing brush? Can one baton wood with it? Or rather than can one do those things, is it an optimal choice for them?
