Smaug!

I recently went on a Tolkien spree and re-read The Hobbit, The LOTR, and I am now about five pages away from finishing The Silmarillion (first time reading this one).

I cant wait for this movie to come out!

Trolls with cockney accents, Beorn, riddles with Gollum, riddles with Smaug, the dwarf content, I could go on for days...

EDIT TO ADD: I probably will go on for days... :D

The legendary weapons cache in the troll cave -who doesn't want to see that?

"Swiftly he returned, and his wrath was redoubled, so that nothing could withstand him, and no weapon seemed to bite upon him. He scattered the bodyguard, and pulled down Bolg himself and crushed him."

Other than Smaug, this is the part that I am most excited to see.

Bard and the Black Arrow is another scene I am really excited for.

Im really glad they are doing two parts for this book.

Gandalf putting out all the lights, killing the Great Goblin with Glamdring, and rescuing the dwarves is another scene I am looking forward to.

had heard they were going to do this after the lord of the rings movies did so well but didnt know it was under way to the point they are making promotional materials for it.
two movies, huh? sounds good to me. the lord of the rings books could have easily been four or five movies.
am on the last couple pages of reading the hobbit aloud to my toddler son. we are at the part where bilbo sees home in the distance and says that poem about 'the road goes ever ever on...'. he doesnt understand but i dont care lol.

I just read he's decided to go for a trilogy.

Read that in the paper today too. Making two had sort of surprised me, but three seems to be pushing things a bit.
I'm sure they will likely be good, just not sure they will be The Hobbit.
Maybe change the title to The Hobbit Plus.:D

I could see a trilogy. One to the trolls. One through the escape from the elves, and then the conclusion.

I can't wait. The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are the first books my mother read to me. I remember being enthralled by the Hildebrandt brothers calendars with Smaug and the Balrog. Awesome stuff. Still love the Ralph Bakshi Hobbit. ;)

two movies is one thing but three? Are they taking stuff from the silmarillion? I know they took the story of the wars of moria from the appendices from lotr but what else would tie in w the hobbit? Was gandalf investigating dol guldur or the lair of the witch king of angmar near the grey havens in the trailer? He should focus on the two movies and then make the silmarillion. If he could turn the hobbit into two movies imagine the silmarillion. Longest running series on hbo?

I think he's using it to clear up all the backstories he can, from the appendices, and hints in all the books that didn't get explained.
A "Life of Gandalf" would be a few movies in itself if Tolkien had written it.

can't wait for this!

the first teaser I saw was just the snippet of them all singing the misty mt. song...epic, and they are just standing around! how can you go wrong?
