Guys, I need some guidance here. I have an anvil for sale that I put up on the local craigslist. I did not put up any pictures at the time I posted it. All it basically said was ...."if interested, I would be glad to send pictures at your request." I get two responses within a few hours of posting late last night. Both just basically said the same thing as follows:

Thanks for your quick response,I just view the item again and its okay by me and will like to proceed with the payment.
I will be more than happy to issue a certified endorced cashiers check to you today via ovenight delivery and i will need your
NAME,ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER to write the cashiers check out.
And concerning the shipping i will handle the shipping via my shipping company so all i need to do now is to send you a
cashiers check of excess fund to cover the cost of purchase and the shipping cost so you can deduct your money and send
the excess to my shipping who is currently in bay area for the pick at your residence after the cashiers check must have clears
your account to my house here in Florida.
Please kindly proceed and delete your advert on craigslist if this is okay by you .....

I did ask them both to call me at my phone number which I gave. There is no picture to look at, lol. The way the email reads is similar to a Nigerian scam. Just wondering if any of you guys have gotten responses like this in the past?
I will not be fooling with shipping anyway.
Thanks
Bryan

Full on scam. If it doesnt make sense, it is a scam. Do not give them anymore information than you already have. Post a picture of the anvil with measurements if you really want to sell it. You may also see how much you could get in recycling money for that. Scrap pays well also.

there is a news story in my area about craigslist. since every1 is afraid of bad checks , fake checks and fake money orders, these guys are using the good old fashioned fake money trick. they paid cash in 20 dollar bills to a few guys and they are all bad

Hey Wade,
Its a 175lb Vulcan Arm and Hammer. Sent you a message. Your more than welcome to call me about it.
Thanks
Bryan

I had an xbox for sale on craigslist once and got about 10 of these emails the first day it was up.

Yeah Scam
These people are dumber than a box of rocks.
I posted a wanted item on Craigslist and they wanted to buy that. So I said send the check for $2500 and any overages would be treated as a gratuity.
Take care
TJ

What everyone else said. Ive gotten a couple of these, I messaged them back but they all went silent after that.

i got three like this when i posted my psp for sale. i said i only take cash, face to face. they were silent after that

someone slap cj65
like Don said we dont recycle anvils unless its to someone else that is going to use it
anvils are hard enough to afford.....

LOL! I traded/sold that anvil for a almost new Lincoln 225/120 mdl arc welder plus 100 cash. I gave up something to get something that I feel I needed. I was happy with the trade and I hope Leon was happy. He will eventually get a small smithy set up, so I was glad to be able to help him.
So, it did go to someone who would use it.
Thanks for all the input guys,
Bryan

May be worth checking the FBI site about this type of scam (www.fbi.gov). It's pretty common and a federal offense.

If you feel like doing your civic duty, you could hang on to those e-mails and get in touch with your state FBI office, also listed on the site.

Was it John Wayne who said:

"Life is tough - but it's tougher when you're stupid"

Do we really need the feds to protect us from these? You'd think they'd have better things to do than chase down a lame auction site scam.

Maybe refer the guy to the great deals available even with bad credit at

http://www.hells-angels.com/

;)

With a government as defunct as canada's I could see how you would need to vent.
:jerkit:

Got a lot of respect for the feds. In fact I'm friends with a few of them. They take their job pretty seriously.

Hmmm... sorry if that sounded like venting. I too have great respect for Federal (and just about all) Law Enforcement.

I was just suggesting that these scammers don't seem like too much of a real threat - and that maybe we could look out for ourselves (as the group here is doing) - and let them focus their resouces on more significant threats.

 Disfunctional? Heck, this is the..... aww nevermind. That's for a different forum. :p

Rob!
