Smith and Wesson 617

I'm really not interested in a sale. I would consider a trade for a new S&W .22 revolver.
The way it would work would be I transfer it to my dealer and he would send it to an FFL of your choosing. The other half of the trade would work the same way in reverse.

Still researching the date of manufacture.

If you are into Busse SH's give me a shout ;) I'd like a model 18 too...

Jacknife,
I hear that PMs aren't working. I sent you one asking if you wanted to trade your 617 for my 18.
Let me know if you are up for that.

Naa. The 617 is smoothing out a bit. Its a heck of a gun, and I like the 10 shot cylinder. If I had run into you before I bought the 617, I'd have offered to buy the 18, but I love this 617 too much already to trade it off.

I am glad I didn't trade this gun away. Listen to this story.
I took the 18 to the range yesterday. It is a great gun. The trigger pull on single action is like a glass rod and it is nice and accurate.
Today I took it to the shop to clean it. I broke it down and dropped it in the ultrasonic cleaner. When I removed it, I was shocked to see that the bluing was gone and the gun looked like crap. I couldn't believe it. Once the shock wore off, I examined the gun and found a weld mark on the frame behind the trigger guard. I have no idea how the previous owner damaged the gun, but it was repaired (not a bad job) and the gun was reblued. At least now I know the gun is not in the original condition and that is why I am glad I didn't trade it.
I am going to have the gun hard chromed and it will be an excellent shooter. Just what I needed, another project.
