Smith and Wesson knives

Thumb rule: Stay away from knife branded with firearmns maker. Only H&K supervise their knives so their brand won't be spoiled by poor knives (or have been H&K knives have been pretty good as at least some point Benchmade made their knives)

S&W, Colt, Winchester etc. Not good. Save your money for Spyderco Byrd or similar. Better value... or Opinel.

Some here are actually very satisfied with their Colt slip joints. There are "Black Box" Winchesters still available that were made by Queen.....very nice knives for the money.

@ Sharp Knives 86

I do not like S&W knives. I've never found there to be any value in them whatsoever. I have no doubt they have some gems but I've never handled one. I don't doubt those who have S&W knives and are happy with them. I would take their recommendations and try specific models mentioned if you're curious.

i have 1 s&w- its a model ck8h. g10 and 440 stainless (not sure which one, i assume C). i think it's actually a great knife for the price. i got it for 11 bucks. the lockup is super solid. the opening isnt the smoothest ever, but to me the lock up is more important, when open it feels as solid as knifes with an extra 0 on the price. there are however other things that contribute to it being an 11 dollar knife. blade material is eh, the coating on it comes off like crazy, isnt easy to open

Does anyone know whether all of their knives are made in China? Are there any S&W knives currently made in the US?

The reason I ask is that a friend showed me a S&W lockback he purchased recently - it has Taylor references on the box but the box is also marked "Made in USA".

The one I saw said "designed in the USA" not made in. Huge deference.;)

My experience is that they should stick with firearms and not attempt the knife realm. My $50 folder on sale for $20 was junk, pocket clip broke off and it was not abused.

Now, their handles usually aren't so great, but their MP magic folders are just cool looking. And the steel is fine.

Now Remington...There's a gun maker who knows how to make a good knife. Check out the Echo II series by them, military edition.
