Do the kamis all have eye protection gear?

I couldn't say for sure. I've never seen any of them wearing it if they have it.
Surely seems like it would be a fine idea but things are different over there. Kind of behind us by 50 or 100 years.
Never heard of OSHA etc and I surely wouldn't want to wish them on anybody, had a few go rounds with them folks back in my vertical construction days. And the NAACP too which is a great story to save for a rainy day. Too funny!

Maybe we should send them a box of good safety glasse's? Good idea?

I know Dear Yangdu's shopping list included safety glasses and welder's mask to replace what was lost in the quake.....but also know they are already maxed out on Kanchhi's luggage for Nov trip home and donations already made.

I am all for an independent shipment and this fall will be sending some stuff own self....safety glasses, earplugs and etc....i work high noise and earplugs make the job so much more comfy....probably will send some dust masks but those are probably easy to get or improvise anyhow.....luckily they work with very little outright toxic stuff so long as they stay traditional...bone dust about worst i can see.....no modern adhesives or epoxies or mists and not much sign of flammable solvents of carcinogenic nature....traditional is GOOD.

Not even sure the guys would wear them. Like you wrote, health and safety over there is from an other planet.
Never been in Nepal, but seen India a few times. These guys drives motorcycles barefoot with kids sitting front, back, center, middle and/or any other plan surface available they may see fit for that infant transportation purpose.

I've seen someone doing arc soldering with no masks and not even wearing pants. The only things protecting his legs was his burnt genitals.
