Yumio Nawa has passed on. Nawa Sensei was a collector of jutte and kusari and had thousands of antiques. He was also a teacher of those budo skills.
He was friend and mentor to many famous budoka at one time or another.
He was 90, I think, so no one can say he didnt have a full life!

Just finnished Bills poems & storys, Wish I had read it while he was still alive.

It opened a part of me again. I can feel loss today.

Been trying to ignore this thread But to be true to my fathers memory & the friends & colleages he heard screaming, Ive got to post something.

That fact you never met Yumio & he wasnt your friend makes it easier to do so Danny.

Yumio Nawa was at one time hunted as a war crimminal for offences during WW2. {Of course we then decided Russia,China, Vietnam & communism in general were the next threat & we could use those same Japanese soldiers, {& indeed did in Veitnam, Malaya, Indonesia etc..} We then swept 99.9% of thier crimes under the carpet.

I know anyone who wishes,trys, has the apptitude & is in an enviroment that allows it, can change & grow & become a better man. I can also forgive people who have done me wrong. {well depeding, still working on that one realy.}

But if this mans Bushido, martial, sword & weapon skills were practised on Allied prisoners of war & civilian women & children. {the standard Japanese war crimes, after all.} & he has then made a living selling these skills to trusting Gwailo then I hope he gets whatever he deserves... for better or worse.

I will light inscence when I have posted this, with the hope it gets hims {& one day I} to whatever hell or heaven or in between his soul deserves,

Kama rules.

I will now light more inscence for all those veterans & civilians who suffered at the hands of men like this.

This is one of those moments which define the forum.
Life is big, and there's many ways to look at things, and we can all go off our own paths convinced the other guy is nuts or wrong or whatever.

Karma. Life was cheap in Japan, especially for lesser races. How we judge is difficult, because last century was a time of rapid social change, where better values replaced those that subjecated nations. (sic)

The British were none too kind to China, remember, fighting a war to keep selling them opium.

I think we can offer smoke, and ultimate judgement is thankfully out of our hands.

One more thing- Rusty Slate believed in redemption. Spiraltwista got a new start here. We all get new starts, or should, from any community that dares to stand up enough to call itself decent.
Let's not turn this wonderful thread into something stupid.

For the WWll vets, what Spiral has brought to the table is essential.
