As I've said before, my Dad's in the last stages of Alzheimer's. Eventually, the brain simply short-circuits, and a lot of bodily functions shut down.
Late last week, Dad got to the stage that he's no longer able to eat. Maybe he no longer wants to eat ... his jaws clamp shut when a spoon touches his mouth. The medical staff's keeping him comfortable, but there will be no heroic measures; he was very clear that he didn't want any. Unless something very unexpected happens, we're looking at a week now; perhaps two.
Finishing his exams now; he'll likely be home for Christmas. Smoke please, to speed a good, tired man on his way.
