Smoke please.

Tom, I lost my father two years ago last summer. A combination of West Nile Virus, leukemia and Parkinson's is what it took to make him go.

It was a long, painful process.

The upside is everybody knew what was coming, and everybody was able to do and say what needed to be done or said, before the end.

I remember my father well every day, and you will, too.

Andy

Thanks all.

Frankly, the very fast slide downhill that he's had in the past few months is probably one of the better things that could have happened to him, at this stage. We know where this is going; Alzheimer's isn't pretty, and the grim stages of it can last for a very long time. I've been hoping for a sharp heart attack, to put an end to his suffering.

Dad's been blessed, in that his personality has remained as sweet as ever throughout, charming the nurses etc. He's lost capacity, memory, speech even ... but in a real way, not what's essential to himself. I'm grateful for that.

Andy, you say you remember your Dad every day; I understand that perfectly. It's good that I have a good man to remember; others haven't been so lucky.

Tom,

You're aware and on top of this as much as is possible, and that wisdom allows you some comfort, I know. Prayers from my family for yours.
God Bless you, Tom.
