Smoke request for a faithful friend

Hi all,

I'm pretty torn up right now and I've got to wait all night before I find out for sure, but my initial gut feeling isn't good.

My dog Buddy has been sick for the past couple days with vomiting and severe itching. I got him into the vet today because he was up all night throwing up and there was blood in the contents.

The vet took blood for tests as Buddy has been on Rimadyl for the past three years for his severe hip displaysia. I got a voice mail from the vet while in class tonight. Bud's ACL tests (liver function) was off the charts and we had to have a talk. I tried to get him on the phone... but got the vet tech instead, who wouldn't pass on any information (and was very non-committal). I don't have a good feeling about it. If Buddy's liver is shot, there isn't any good cure for him.

I've never had to put a dog down... and Buddy has been pretty much my constant companion for six years. He's probably the best friend I've ever had (that might be a poor statement about my life... don't know)... but he's gotten me through times when all of my other friends had abandoned me. I can even say truthfully that he saved my life. He kept me going when my whole world crashed around my ears and I wasn't ready to climb out of the hole I was in.

I guess I just need a prayer for my dog. Either for a full recovery or a quick passage to a better life... and the strength to help him make the journey.

Thanks

Alan

It's not a poor statement of your life, at all. Few of us will ever have a better friend than a good dog.

Special prayers sent, get well soon Buddy

prayers from here.

My childhood dog of 17 years died while I was in basic training. That was a long time ago...

Take care,

Tom

Oh man, you got it Alan. I pray that he will recover and be around for many years to come. I know exactly how you feel. I dread the day the time comes for my best friend as well.

Smoke and prayers for you and Buddy from California. Please let us know how he's doing.

Norm

Had to put down my best friend a little over 2 years ago. I cried every day for a month. It is hard.

If it needs to be done, have the vet do it and be there with him when he passes. Most vets offer cremation, which is usually the best option.

Prayers for you both.

Its almost 4 a.m. and he's been up all night vomiting again. This doesn't look good. Thanks for the prayers...

The dog trusts your judgement implicitly....after you talk to the vet, and no quick fix is offered, don't dawdle....more pain for the dog, AND a hell of a lot more anxiety for you. I've done this a few times both ways, and I've cried like a baby.....just stay with him thru the last moment so he knows its O.K. Prayers from Indiana.....

Smoke up. There is no friendship on this earth more loyal and true than that of a man and his dog. May Buddy make a full recovery. If not, may he wake up in a sunny field filled with rabbits and cool water.
Alan, please let us know if there is anything that we can do.

Jake

Alan,

Thoughts are with you. There were times when my dog kept me going, too.

John

Smoke up for you and your pal Alan. Sorry to hear that.

Looks just like my boyhood dog Chester too.

Smoke sent and may you find peace and strength from within. Losing a pet is no different than losing a family member. My 15 year old cat died over 12 years ago and I still have dreams about him. In my dreams he appears to be very happy, and it is almost like he still reaches out to touch me and to let me know he's okay.

I'd talk to the doctor first of all to find out whats the best course of action
for Buddy. My prayers are with you two.
Sincerly,
Cleve
