Smoke request for a faithful friend

Glad to hear Buddy is on the mend Alan:thumbup: :)

This "joke" reminded me of your relationship with him. and all of our relationships with our pets...enjoy.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like Mother of Pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we? "This is Heaven, sir," the man answered. "Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked. Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured,! and the gate began to open. "Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the asked. "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets." The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. "Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?" "Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there". The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in." "How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog. "There should be a bowl by the pump." They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave ! some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them. "What do you call this place?" the traveler asked. "This is Heaven," he answered. "Well, that's confusing," the traveler said "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too." "Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's Hell." "Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?" "No I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who'll leave their best friends behind."

Just an update on the dog. Buddy is doing better, although sore from being off his pain meds for the last few weeks.

After this whole pet food thing kicked up, I began to wonder if it really was the Rimadyl that got him sick. I was feeding him the Mighty Dog pouch food over Xmas break (15 Dec - 15 Jan) and had just switched him over to the MD canned food right about when he really got bad. Even after he quit vomiting, he only had a decent appetite with ground meat/rice for his meals. In fact, I just switched him back to that the other day... he went for a whole week without eating hardly anything.

So maybe it was the food... maybe the Rimadyl... maybe a little of both. I'll mention it to the vet next Saturday when we get his next shot. He got his third Adequan shot this morning and is beginning to be a bit more bouncy. He even got his tennis ball out the other day for a short play session.

Thanks again for the prayers/smoke and thoughts.

For what its worth Alan I classmate of mine did extensive research into commercial dogfood and found it to be full of disgusting and unhealhty things--things that arene't even food! Seriously, it was horrible.

Her dog was very sick and they couldn't seem to get him well until she got him off commerical food for good and she began making his food. This is all too common unfortunately.

We took our dog off the run of the mill commerical stuff and put her on Wysong--she is much healthier than she was before. Cleared up a digestive issue the vet couldn't seem to get rid of.

Good news is good news. I'll take it. Smoke continuing.

Glad the dog is improving.

Doubt the vet will know...betcha everything from warts to long toenails are currently being attibuted to the food thing.

Ain't nothin' quite like a dog buddy. :)

even the not-right ones.

Alan, Glad that Buddy is doing better. We had an old Newfoundland with hip dysplacia that was on Rimadyl for years. Before we got to the Rimadyl stage we found that a heavy dosing of Glucosamine Chondroitin did wonders for the joint movement and pain. Even while on Rimadyl her pain came back when we tried letting up on the Glucosamine Chondroitin.
Best wishes for Buddy,
Lloyd

You're right on West... I switched Buddy's dry dog food over to a "senior" formula a couple of years ago for the added glucosemine, etc... and he gets a daily dose of PetMeds "Super Joint Enhancer" every morning.

I think the shots are starting to kick in now. He's almost back to his normal bouncy... if sometimes annoying... self :D. Something about a 93lbs. dog barking full force inside a Caravan makes it hard to concentrate on driving . He "knows" that every pickup in Wyoming has a dog inside of it... which requires a bark or two when they drive by :).

I was wrong on the pet food thing too... I had him on the Pedigree pouch stuff... not the Mighty Dog version. So it is good all the way around. :)

I’m glad to read that he’s “almost back to his normal bouncy... if sometimes annoying... self”

Great News!
