"Smoke wash" finish

I am pretty sure for Kershaw's "black wash" finish, they stone wash a coated blade. Is that similar to smoke wash?

It would be interested to know if adding different stones or material (like coal) would yield different outcomes.

I think it's not nearly as literal a term as you might think it is. I imagine it's just a black oxide coating with a light stonewash - which is generally tumbling with a ceramic media.

I will experiment with both using coal and stone washing a black finish and see wich works out the best I guess

Thanks for the responses!

+1

It appears as if they material (steel or titanium) was satin finished, black oxide coated, and then tumbled.
