I took the family to Tenn. for vacation this week & while we were there my father-n-law & me took the boy's up to Clingmans Dome for a little while. If you havn't been & you want an awsoem view of the Smokey Mountians then this is the place to be ! I also hit SMKW while I was there & scored 2 nice pieces of steel...Condor Parang & Golok & my boy's picked out their own knife - Mora SS cout models & I got 100' of Flo. Orange 550 cord !

5. Fire Kit (LMF scout steel,bic lighter,water proof matches, & tinder)
6. 8x bino's
7. LED flashlight
9. poncho
10. 2-fixedblades (Wohlwend EDC & Breeden Peacemaker)
11. Sharpie marker
12. 3-16oz bottles of drinking water
on myself was my Cellphone, LED flashlight, Spyderco Delica4 PE, Vict. SAK Alox Soldier.
Raybans Predator Sunglasses & Casio G-Shock watch.
 
Great view and good knife score! thanks for sharing (your boys got good taste....love the Mora's, I got one for my little cousin and he loves it).
 
Looks like a gorgeous view. And those Moras are great, they take a mean edge (especially the carbon ones).

Great photos. Thanks for sharing them. I've been through the Blue Ridge mountains but haven't made it to the Smokies yet.
 
I was there two summers ago. Took an unpaved road out of the park and saw several bears.
 
Sounds like you guys had a great trip. I took my daughter hiking last week in the Linville area of NC. If you've never tried it, you should. We took a trail to the top of Hawksbill Mtn and had an incredible view, also, table rock and a place called the chimneys is always incredible. Walked to Linville Falls, Wilson's Creek trail and some more. No crowds. If you are looking for another area to visit, I highly recommend it

I was at the dome in May of 81 or 82 & it was socked in worse than it was for you,couldn't see a thing.:rolleyes:
Love the Smokies in the fall though,much cooler & beautiful colors.:thumbup:
I walked by that APT sign too.(Doubt if it's the same one though)
Nice blade scores,the Moras are good choices for the boys.

The smokies are a great place for vacation. Everytime I go I have to visit SMKW. Plus, all of the great views. One of the coolest places in the US, IMO.

The pack came from SMKW 2~3yrs ago, it's a Gerber pack that came with a hyd. bladder but I took the bladder out for more storage room + I don't like the tast of the water from the bladder. It's actually a very well made pack. It's small but makes a perfect daypack for short/close to home trips.
