Smoking

I saw it mentioned once already, but if you already have made the decision and have a plan about how your going to quit and avoid smoking, see your doc about Chantix! It's not at all some senseless concoction, it's will hit and block those nicotinic receptors while you're trying to quit. Very many of my patients have used it with great success.

Very obviously, it's only one piece of a puzzle. If it's the only thing you hang your hat on, you'll fail at quitting. But can definitely help!

I smoked for ten years. One day I was at the doctor for a checkup. He asked me if I had kids and I told him that yes I had three. He said " Would you like to see them graduate from high school/" I said, well of course. He said " Then you better quit those damn cigarettes. I went home and quit. Never touched another one. That was 38 years ago. I felt like a new man within a few months.

Anyone else actually trying to quit ?

I'm on day 3 ... so far so good the 1st day was the hardest.

Yeah the first few days you really feel the physical addiction, but in a week maybe 2, the ball of vacuum in you gut will be all but gone.
Then you need to find out what to do with your hands all day, when you are not smoking.
For me that was pretty hard.
Remember: It WILL get better every day, little by little, just keep at it.

You're well on your way! Stay tough!

You have beat the physical part of the addiction. Now you just have to keep your head straight and not slip up. Soon, you'll start to feel better physically, and food will start to taste really good!

Before I quit for good many years ago, I had quit several times for weeks, a few months, and once, for two years before starting again.

Best of luck to you,
desmobob

I know what you mean, I've quit a few times now. But I just get bored one night, and end up driving to the store never even thinking about it, just go a buy a pack.

As of right now im 4 days with out one, even if I do have a few in a couple days, If I can keep going the way I am, I will be done smoking in a month or so, sounds good to me.

I was a two pack a day smoker for twenty-five years. I thought I would be a smoker the rest of my life. Im another one who set a date, about a month away as my quit date. That gave me plenty of time to prepare mentally. I was actually looking forward to that day. It was hard but i havent had a smoke in ten years. Dont even crave them.

$7.00 a pack ($210/month), bad breath, stinky clothes, supporting the tobacco industry, heart attacks.. bla bla.. What more do you need? I just think of all that and think I would rather spend $210 a month on kids, knife, gun, trip, stocks, anything than pay for all that bad crap. Take the money you spend on cigs and put in a jar. Even if you still smoke make a matching money jar. Soon you'll have so much money and knowing that you just burned that up will help. Just imagine taking all that cash and setting it on fire and getting cancer, heart attacks, .....

Good luck.

Kudos to all those who have stopped smoking, and to all those that are trying. You've taken a huge step towards a much healthier life. For those of you that are trying, KEEP IT UP!!! :)

As an update, sadly I haven't managed to quit cold turkey yet. I'm not sure it's in the cards. I have however cut back my smoking by about half in the last week. It's that darn commute that gets me every time! If I can't ween myself off completely I'll be heading to the doc to give the chantix a try.

Don't give up man it sometimes takes multiple attempts ... but it ain't easy.
I'm approaching the end of my second week without a smoke - cold turkey.
I used to smoke a pack a day so it can be done and to tell you the truth I
don't really miss it.

Bumping this up for those who plan on or are currently smokeless.

Thanks for the BUMP, the wife and i need/wanna quit and were gonna do it this weekend. She got down to her last one last night and had me go buy a carton. She,s been smoking for around 25yrs.

I only started smoking 4yrs ago at the age of 45 ,i know WTF right ? Anyway it,s a very scary feeling to stop smoking, why i dunno but she and i agree on that we both had it.

We both have a carton now at a cost of $125.00 we spend $500.00 a month on the dam things ! I,m trying to use that as one motivation to quit.

I found my answer with Swedish snus.

Some use E-cigarettes, some cold turkey.

PM me if you want some good info, there are forums for people who don't want to smoke and have quit using various methods.

Best of luck

-Jon-

side note, if available to you where you live some tobacco may be available at greatly reduced prices. the internet can be great sometimes.

My folks quit years ago by increasing the time between smokes each day for 6 weeks then went cold turkey.

I smoked for 15+ years, pack or more a day, and never wanted to quit - then someone handed me this book:

http://www.theeasywaytostopsmoking.com/

I quit the day I finished it, that was 2 years ago and have never looked back. It has also worked for:

My mother
My GF
Her Mother
My uncle
Many of my friends
Many of my co workers

I buy it for anyone I know who will read it. I have bought over 30+ copies. The best 12 dollars you will ever spend.

good luck.

Well damn, I guess I shoulda looked around a bit more before I posted huih?

I have been 6 days without a smoke. Its been hard, one thing I do is when I get a craving I do some pushups or pull ups or squats or something. If I can't do that, I just tell myself, go 15 minutes without, see how you feel. If that 15 goes by and I still want one, ok dickhead make it 30 works for me everytime, especially driving

Keep it up everybody, just DO NOT smoke the next one

I did some deep breathing exercises, when the craving came.
Those worked great for me.
