Does anyone know what different models were made with A2 and smooth bolts, any info would be appreciated, thanks.

SHBM SH1 SHBA MS. I'm sure there are others but those come to mind. I'm not familar with the SH1 or SHSH but with the other three, some had slotted bolts, some had smooth bolts in A2.

The SHBM was Infi, every SHBM is infi and it was made in the smooth bolt configuration.

So was the SHSH, and BBSHSH, and the SHSHII all with smooth bolts and A2, some of the later Steel Hearts had Infi and smooth bolts.
So was the SHBA, it had smooth bolts and some are A2 and some Infi.

And not to forget my favorite....the original AK...not the wimpy 3/16ths Ak47, the original .25+ A2

And the SHMS, smooth and A2. This is the only one that I have not seen with Smooth bolts and Infi. Not saying they don't exsist, I just haven't seen them. And I am sure there are more and others will chime in.

I have a Holy Tearer with smooth bolts, not sure of the steel, I saw a proto that was D2 once, not sure if all them got it.

I have a BBSHSH and a SHSH11, does anyone have a picture of a SHSH, i've never seen one?

.
Do you mean a SH1? Because the timeline is: SH1, BBSHSH, SHSHII, SHE, FSH. The SHSHII is called a "two" because it was the second version of the straight handle Steel Heart, the BBSHSH being the first, so the SHSH and the SHSHII are the same. There is also two versions of the BBSHSH, one with a "Humpback" blade profile and one with the same blade profile as the SHSHII, they don't really have different names though. I did a picture of the progression, from left to right, old to newer, see below.

.

The original Steel Heart 1 was NOT A2, it was ats-34, here is a pic

The first A2 Steel Heart was the Steel Heart 2. A longer blade, thicker blade, and coated for the first time as A-2 is a high carbon tool steel.

The Steel Heart in this pic is the Steel Heart 2, otherwise known as the Birds Beak Straight Handle Steel Heart. The Badger is an A2 Badger. That SH2 will be handed down to my daughter some day.

EIDT: I see Randucci was writing same time as me, Mine is the "Humpback" version, its very different from the later designs, more like the SH1 in profile.

Wow! thanks for the pictures, i just became fasinated with the oldies, been lucky so far, have a smooth bolt MS and a BBSHSH humpback i believe i got from Randucci and smooth bolt BA comming, couple slotted SHSH11's and a Black paper handle SH E. Its gonna be a real bear to find a SH1! oh well thats what makes it fun. thanks for the help.

Here's one i got from T, awhile back i'm told its A-2 pretty thick. But with slotted bolts. Not the best pic either.

I love the smooth handled version, mine is INFI

I sold the stripped one a while back, I miss that one. :o

I have been trying to find a Smooth Bolt SHBM for some time.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant SH-1, when I typed the SHSH......

I wish I had a BBSHSH. That is one hot looking blade. I love the bird's beak pommel...

WoW! Look what I found hidding in my closet yesterday. It was way in the back of my sock draw. Had to put it back and waited until (coast is clear) today to take some pics. This BBSHSH II is super sweeeet.

Only thing, it ain't my birthday. Hmmm????

That is a BBSHSH (Birds Beak Straight Handle Steel Heart), not a SHSHII. It has a satin finish too, you don't see many satin finish A2 blades! I don't think they were using that Custom Shop label back when it was originally made, do you know if it was sent in later to have the custom work done?

Cool knife!

It was "Steel Heart 2" when it was released. But I assume the terminology was changed to keep things easy to categorize? Just wondering.

"Straight Handle" was added later for obvious reasons. :)

You are correct it is a BBSHSH II. I was looking at your picture chart and it's the 3rd one from the left (with the straighter ricasso and forgot about the rear talon/pommel) and pick the 3rd one on your list. Thanks randucci for pointing that out.

Speaking of smooth bolt A2 knives, who out there has a Smokey?

I found a reference in a 1995 ASG article. If I can get a good pic of the photo in the article I'll post it as soon as I can.
