Smooth moves -- oil, graphite, or what?

didn't see anything about samples on the militec site, is there a request form somewhere?

Saw that page earlier, kinda confusing. There's already discount pricing for military, and pricing for ordering by the case. I really don't want to get something for nothing, since I'm not deploying any time soon, and it could go to better use with another soldier. Plus I don't want to take from their regular stock that they also have to sell to make a living. Was looking for more of a small sample they might distribute regularly.

I have used CLP lubricant on knives and guns for many years. It doesn't gum up like oil and has a cleaning quality. It is currently used by the military in all sorts of nasty environments. It can be purchased at any gun store very reasonably. I thinks it is similar to Rem-Oil. It Cleans-Lubricates-Protects (CLP).

Another thing I noticed about Militec-1 is it continues to keep the action smooth even after I wash out and dry the pivot! With other lubes if I were to wash out the pivot and dry the knife I would have to re-apply more lubrication or the action would be very rough. Also those of you who try Militec-1, be sure to follow the instructions on their site in regards to heating the metal up that it is being applied to. Most of us use a hair drier to do this. Or Militec-1 says you can put the item under a black tarp that is in direct sun light. You're aiming for around 140 degrees for 10-15 minutes or more.

I've had the best luck with Militec-1. I also use it to lube my guns, and my issued weapons during my deployment. It is also an engine oil additive, so if it's not available at your local knife or gun stores, you could try some auto parts stores. Usually it's cheaper if you look at the cost per ounce. About half the price sometimes.

well, militec is awesome for metal to metal connections, but for the FRN spydercos, I am trying tuff glide. I have something called PMI oil carried over from my paintball hobby works really well on FRN but it gets messy and needs to be washed and replaced weekly.
I am thinking that maybe I should use militec to treat my FRN knives and then add tuff glide, since i notice some metal on metal friction that is not really a big problem. I figure the militec can do whatever the hell it does and then it should stay and the tuff glide overit.

I have also been considering ways of poilishing a knifes internals without dissassembly. I used mothers mag polish to polish my pb marker internals and i think the same could be done on a knife, however dissassembly voids the warranty on most knives. I might try it on a knifekits.com knife first, though It seems really useful for a lockback where the lock creates high friction against the "tang". That is the biggest smoothness issue I have noticed with different knife types, some rough areas on the "tang" or lock.
