If you remember, I had a question last week about my new Sebenza. The lock tended to stick a little, and the action was a tad tight. Well, I followed a strong regiment this week, giving my Sebenza 300 opens and closes per day. That's around 2000 total. I have no idea at what point I noticed the remarkable change. My Seb as now smooth as silk!!!!
The lock slips into place easily, and slides out without getting stuck. The lock doesn't slide out loosely, but firmly and easily...... if that makes any sense. I didn't think the two adjectives could go together, but I guess that's a testament to the precision of the Sebenza.
The open and closing action has been positively transformed. Gravity doesn't actually take hold at any position, but the action is extremely smooth. This may seem like a contradiction, but I guess that's precision at work again.
Did the bronze washers smooth out? Did the small amount of blade finish at the pivot smooth down? Did the amount of lube just go down to a point where the Seb smoothed out? Got me, but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. Let's just say that I am now a 100% convert!!!
This makes we wonder about people's perception of the Sebenza after briefly handling one brand new. A week of strong breaking in really changes the whole feel of the knife. Maybe people should first be exposed to a heavily used model to fully appreciate the action of the design. This is truly a remarkable knife.
