smooth vs. teeth

The only sawback that I've seen that really worked was on a blade that was made from a saw. It cut well (both sides), but it was too flexible for prying.

Every one of them

You read the one by the OP, right before yours, where he said...

"First, I want to make it clear that I've already decided that I want a plain, not a serrated edge, mainly because it's much easier to sharpen. This discussion is about whether or not the knife should have sawteeth on the spine."

I know it seems off topic, but I carry a leatherman on my belt and a Pocket Screwdriver in my breast pocket along with a CS Black Rhino. FTR I happen to be a mechanic, and while it may not seem applicable, I find myself doing the same things in the woods as I do in the shop. (Former Infantryman). I use the Pocket screwdriver for poking/prying before I pull out my knife or Leatherman. First, its A LOT cheaper than either of the two knives, I expect it to take damage based off of the task its performing. Its as small as a pen, so I don't worry about weight in comparison to the other two beasts I am carrying. The Leatherman is the next go to for poking/prying/sawing. It has all the appropriate tools in a very compact package (the tools contained within are also individually replaceable). IF I had to cut down a larger tree and was not carrying a large saw blade, then I would baton the tree with my CSBR.

As a mechanic, I have to reiterate, there is a tool for every job, but there is no single tool that can do every job. Some are good for multiple jobs like a Multi-tool, but thats where it ends.

I would say as earlier pointed out, for heavy duty camping take a Saw Blade/Axe or even a Military E-tool shovel with serrated edge. That way you don't kill your most important tool (your knife).

I now believe I was mistaken about the stabbing test in the review. The picture I thought was a stab that stopped at the point of the sawteeth I now believe is actually from a chopping motion test. He doesn't go into much detail other than to say the knife pierced .25" plywood and was able to stick from throwing the knife. When he says 'pierce' I wonder if that's the shot where just the tip is stuck in.

for the price of that ground pounder i would get a becker companion bk2 and a becker combat bowie bk9 and youll still have enough for a cheap folding saw

Those Beckers are pretty sweet, but I'm not too crazy about the feel of the handles. You make a good point about the price though.
