Okay so straight up in just after a knife that's smooth and fun to flick whilst watching TV, sitting in traffic 😁 etc. Needs to be not too huge.

I'm a Spyderco fan for the FFG in actual EDC use. But I'm really liking playing with flippers ATM. Currently I have a Domino BBS & Mantra 1 that gets good use. I also have acquired a ZT 0095BW and a ZT 0562CF. I have a Kizer Gemini on order. I really like the ZT 0562CF but it's a bit clunky flipping it sitting around, saying that it's my favourite so far and is uber smooth, both opening and closing. The flipper tab on the ZT 0095BW whilst it never misfires hurts my finger after a while with the sharp jimping and pointed top.

What's peoples thoughts on further models I might enjoy. Not sure on the Spyderco southard.
I like the look of the ZT 0456 and looking at youtube reviews it seems very smooth (the thickness and mass shouldn't be an issue sitting around). The flipper tab looks comfortable too with the push down design. Not sure on the ZT 0900 but open to feedback.

I know there is a guzzulion threads like this but they are older and I have some models suggested already.

So BF, help me spend some $$$ eh 😁

I'll second the ZT0450. Smoothest. Knife I have ever owned. Granted, I haven't owned a lot but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I have a bunch of flippers but the best flipper I have is the Brous mini division . Spyderco flippers are average at best not for me ZT makes good flippers .

The old 801 before they changed the detent. That's the smoothest of them all.

I have around 15 flippers......ZT 450 & 452 are amazing! Smooth, fast & fun with very few misfires!!
The best I have?? Have to agree with Milt above......Brous Mini Division & Brous VR-71.......both are smoother than snot, both fly open any way you flip them and both lock up TIGHT!!!!!
They also each have that extremely satisfying THWAAAAACK!!!!!

For me, the Sprint 0452CFM390BLU
Its a just a hair north of $250, but good gracious its nice flipper

The ZT 0452 is very, very smooth. Like MacLaren1 above, I love the look and feel of the sprint blue / M390. Probably the best knife in this price range if you like the size.

You can look through my post history and see there is no doubt how much I love my ZT0456. The size of this knife is awesome, it is an amazing flipper and if you want to use it besides just sitting around and flipping, it is ready for anything you can throw at it! When it comes to flippers in your price range it is always the first one I recommend if weight is not a concern.

You don't want to flick a LONG blade while in traffic...you just don't.
The 452 is a great knife, but NOT for in the car.
The 450 is very nice; so is the 770.
My personal favorite is the 808...nice and easy KVT bearing, manual flipper, light, very positive, and blade-shape is more "protective" to your own safety than most other designs.
Also is one of RamZar's favorites, and he has all of them...plus. His post got me interested in this one, and it is now my favorite ZT out of perhaps thirty that I've gone through.

I have to agree, if I was looking for the smoothest ZT flipper I would go with this over my 450.

Great responses everyone. Keep em coming. My thoughts are the 0452CF is a little bit more pocket sword with its size, they look great though. I've fiddled away on my Millie in the car and it's a handful around the steering wheel. Sorry I know it's such a unsafe thing to do in a vehicle but it's when I'm static in traffic.

I'll probably end up getting a 0450CF and a 0456. They both look good.

By chance I just scored a second hand a Kizer Ursa Minor. These are meant to be the most dialed Kizer yet. Eagerly awaiting this one now.

ZT0450 pound for pound the best flipper at its price.

Even better that the 0450 is sold at deep discount fairly frequently. I picked one up for less than 100. The 0808 hardly ever goes at discount. 0770, the big one, can be found at discount, when you can find one, as it seems to be a fairly less popular design.

I think 0450 design lends itself best to the flipper style. I personaly prefer non-assisted flippers, which can still open when you don't succeed at flipping it open. Assisted flippers require additional effort either pulling the blade the rest of the way out or resetting it. A 300SN? Always ready to be at any position: fully open or closed.

For small, light and smooth manual flippers go with ZT 0450 or Kizer Gemini Ti.

If you're already getting the Gemini Ti you could go with Kizer Ursa Minor which is the same size but a different blade shape.

Along with ZT 0450 there's also a limited run 0450CFZDP available right now. Actually, you have four choices in the ZT 0450 series.

Top to bottom:

  • 0450
  • 0450CF
  • 0450SIG
  • 0450CFZDP
