Smoothing the filing work on the knife spine

I have been messing around with file designs on a few knives. What is the best method to make the file work smooth and eliminating the file marks before heat treating?

Various grits of sandpaper wrapped on your files. That and use as fine if files as you can find. IMO.

Sound good thanks! I tried the sandpaper approach. I think i need to invest in some fine files.

Rubber abrasive wheels, used on a flexible shaft machine, or with a Dremel tool on LOW speed. Then polish with green compound on hard felt wheels in the rotary tool.
