So I kill this rattle snake and dried the skin. I was wonder what I would need to coat it with to use it in a sheath?
Thanks for the help
Oh I only walked by this snake three time with my 2 year old daught before it struck at my truck tire when we drove off. I didn't see it till it struck. CRAZY BLESS
Thanks

What condition is the skin in now? Did you stretch it and dry it? Did you scrape it? There are a couple ways to do it. It will only be good as decorative material, the skins are not strong enough to actually make anything out of. They will not come out looking like any comercially processed animal skins.

If the skin has been scraped, stretched and dried, I would suggest rubbing it down with a solution of 50% Glycerine, 45% Isopropyl Alcohol and 5% Formaldahyde.

If you have kept it wet, by refrigeration, I would suggest scraping it down real good stretch it and coat it with Green Anti-Freeze and let it dry in a warm shaded area.

There are kits available, but it's probably to late for that.

The thread in the post above has good info as well...

Stretch and scape the hide. Dry with plenty of 20 muleteam borax. The borax accelerates the drying, and prevents insect attack later. When dry, brush off Borax, and use the hide how you wish on the sheath. When in place use a spoon to carefully scrape off the clear scale covers, Then coat with a quality clear polyureathane, or other durable clear coating. I have used Tandy's Super Sheen, a water based acrylic, with good success.

Sorry forgot to post the pic.
So the skin is aready streched and dryed.
Thanks you all for the info should help alot.
Thanks
