Snakes

This is what is feared when you trek through the jungles of the Philippines which is where I am at currently... The 3rd picture is one that is in captivity at the Jungle environment survival training school in Zambales Philippines.. He had his own cage and was found in the training area, So unless you go to the swamps of florida, you won't see many reticulating pythons unless you go to a zoo somewhere

The venomous guys and any constrictor big enough to kill me and eat eat me are a big NOPE.

My existence is evidence that my ancestors were smart enough or lucky enough to avoid those things and I'm not going to tempt fate!

It’s been raining here finally and this brings out the wildlife. Saw the seventh rattlesnake of the year today and a beautiful coachwhip too. The diamondback would not coil for me, just writhed, rattled and hissed while moving into bracken for a so so photo. Got about half of the coachwhip framed. They are among the fastest snakes in North America. Four fat javelina ran across a ridge near our offtrail destination. The desert is greening up once more so more wildlife will appear.

We also came across this track with no claw marks, somewhere around 3.5” x 2.5”. Dogs are not allowed in here but that doesn’t totally rule that option out. Lions roam here and are spotted often enough. I wish the print was sharper with more definition but this is the best one. Anyone able to identify it from this photo?

Looks like a large dog print. A dog has two lobes on the heel a mountain has three lobes ... and a lion has two lobes on the front of the heel and a dog only the one lobe.

I had a sneaking feeling that was the answer. The track didn’t follow the trail but cut across it in one piece. We have heard lions caterwauling and loudly snarling but they have never shown themselves. Came across several kill sites and one as fresh as they come but they know how to stay hidden.

You can't rule out Man-Bear-Pig (half man, half bear, half pig).

We were in the desert earlier this morning and went to a favorite off trail spot that is very hard to find. It is near a huge white boulder that I can see a couple miles away perched way up high so I decided to get closer to the boulder and climb to its top height to take a few photos. The terrain there is almost impossible. It is chocked with thorny vegetation and the gullies are steep and deep, surrounded by steep, rocky, thorny terrain and obstacles. We found it thrilling and I actually expected to see something of your description. I even fell once and I never fall. That I’m sure is when the beast will attack.

Still it’s far safer out there than going downtown for pizza where a night ago ten people were shot, all in critical condition. A friend was there five minutes before the carnage broke out, got outta Dodge just in time.

I just have a sore butt where it contacted the sharp, rough rocks when I went ass over teakettle. I love these mountains, these canyons and will never live down in town again even if there are scary beasts roaming about. 😂

Is it safe to guess that you live in or near Tucson? You're right that two-legged predators are way more dangerous than critters in the wild, but at least the human predators won't eat you after they kill you. Well, at least I hope not. Because that would be really, really bad.

I'm the guy who would fall and get hurt badly enough that I lost what little mobility I still have. Then it's wildlife buffet time!
