Snap on Bluepoint Belt Sander

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I used a similar sander for 2 years to make knives to save up for my Burr King, it works, belts can be hard to find. Get a ceramic platen for it. It's usable.

I too used one for a bit, then I took it apart and built a three-wheel grinder with the parts. It's a well-designed, simple little attachment and the parts are quality-made.

What size belts does it use?

dont know but i don't care

Allrighty then.

If anyone who does care, and has one, reads this. I would like to know. From looking at a picture, I assume it's a 2" width but I was wondering about length. Is it some oddball length that will be hard to find belts for? It looks like it may be 2x42, but I can't really tell.

Thanks,
Kiah

The one I had was a 2x36 or something like that. I've still got it and some belts, my 9yo daughter is going to use it to learn to grind on :)

Price-wise, you can pick them up new on eBay (Blue Point branded) for $110 plus shipping. Of course, you've got to provide your own motor at that price.

Mine's mounted on a $15 HF grinder, used it for the last 3 or so years, 2 years of knife grinding 1 year of just general usage.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of upgrading from my HF 1x30. I've been looking at this and a Craftsman 2x42. Where would one get a nice selection of 2x36? The place I get my belts from doesn't seem to have any.

I used to order them from Supergrit or one of the other discount abrasive places. I cant' really remember.

Supergrit is where I get my 1x30s, and they don't have 'em. I'll look around a bit. It'll probably be a while before I upgrade. I'm still waiting for the steel to start on my first blade, and I'm a little overly excited. :)

I bought this one on Ebay instead of the Snap on. Item #310026802553 If anyone cares and wants to comment! Ha! Ya Have to keep your sense of humor.
