Snap! :(

Yikes, Jack! Do you carry a copy of this photo with you when you go knife-hunting?! If I were chasing variations such as these, I'd have to do something like that or I'd be continually buying duplicates. Wow.

LOL! :D I have a memory like a sieve, but they're not that common, and there are so many variations, so I've not duplicated one yet

Sincere condolences, I empathize with your pain.

Made for me by a friend who no longer makes knives. Snapped one day when opening, sent shock waves through me. Had been my EDC for several years so was pretty attached to it.

The good ... in search of a replacement I found this forum. Here's a nice soothing pic for you.

Thanks John, the same to you my friend, yours looks like the more serious loss :( At least it brought you here :) Thanks for the soothing pic!

Man, I hate the thought of an old treasured knife breaking a spring like that. I've never had it happen, but I can imagine it being awfully rough. Sorry for those losses guys. I'm wondering if several years from now those bear trap #73's are going to do the same.

Since the blade on this knife still works, and the broken spring on the can-opener is held in place by the marlin spike, I think I'm just going to hang onto it, and carry it occassionally. I'll let you know how I go on, particularly in the other spring goes

so thats what a clasp knife is. interesting. all these years i saw the words clasp knife in books, and have been trying to look it up. i think it was in treasure island

Well, they are known as clasp knives, but historically-speaking, clasp knives are actually something quite different. Sorry! ;)

That makes me sad. Sorry about your luck Jack.

Thanks Brandon

I've got a Camillus SS military knife dated 1968 that belonged to my dad. It was in a green canvass belt holder. My dad used it while in the Navy. I was cleaning it up because there was some rust on the inside and one of the springs popped! It's the knife blade/punch spring and it's broken near the punch. - Old posting.

I know brother, it sucks! I got mine fixed because it has sentimental feelings for me.

Better days to you!

That's terrible Randy, so glad that you were at least able to get a replacement spring. Be nice to see a pic if you have one

My apologies Randy, missed this until now. Ouch!

I feel your pain!
I opened my Fantoni Dweller one day and heard the dredded snap/click as it snaped.
Mine had a little trip to Italy where it was fixed at the Fantoni factory free of charge, hope you get yours sorted and all turnes out ok for you.

Thanks Dizz, glad you were able to get yours fixed  I gifted someone a Joker knife a while back, and the spring went on that. They were very good about it, just sent me a new knife for him, reckoned it might have been a HT issue

had a United lockback snap a back spring. the folks who sold me the knife had a few spares so they repaired her. not an expensive knife but and ok knife.
had to be the HT cause there was not much pressure on the spring.
