Sneak Peek from Fiddleback HQ 05/12/2015

Thank you VERY much for the reply. Please forgive me for being the "new guy" and a little slow, but what does "hamon" mean? Thanks!

A high carbon clay is spread out along the edge and allowed to harden before the blade is heat treated. This makes the edge harder than the spine. Giving the knife some flexibility but allowing for a tougher, more wear resistant edge. It also allows for some nice visual patterns that the bladesmith can design. Basically super cool knife stuff :-D

Thanks.

I have to say that the Fiddleback sub-forum here is the coolest internet community I have found anywhere. The only other communities that compare are a few of the other sub-forums here or one of the bushcraft sites. Thanks to everyone here for making me feel so at home and being so free with your knowledge and experience.

What is the blade length on the Padres?

Someday I hope to see another Camp Nessie done in 5/32, TT, and micarta handles. Then the "only" difficulty would be to shark the thing!!!

Here's the Padres being scribed

And the camp nessies on 3/16" 2" wide

I think its called rolled camo by shadetree. I think he had it in a sales thread not too long ago.
And, thank you for posting the pictures.

Yep, The FF crew named it tsunami.

I hope "my dog ate a sock" sticks!

It should, they ordered a good size chunk of it.

We'll be doing similar things in different colors soon.

"One of today's SuperBen knives .. pics dont do this one justice. It's eye popping gorgeous!" Your not kidding, it looks even better in person and it feels incredible in hand. Thanks for taking the pic.

As Necrolicious noted, a hamon is a pattern on the blade that manifests as a result of the hardening process. In many cases, a medium such as clay is used to provide different cooling properties to parts of the blade during heat treating, and the pattern marks the transition between the harder cutting edge and the softer spine of a blade with a hamon. In addition to being a byproduct of these (or other) processes, the hamon is considered to be artistic and has great visual appeal.

So where can I find sheaths for these babies? I have a pocket Kephart in the mail, which I would rather have in a pouch sheath on my belt. I see more here I'd like to add and use, but the sheath maker i see posting on here sells out as fast as the knives. Any advice would be appreciated, these knives are too beautiful to be safe queens for me.

There's a few sheath makers who frequent this sub forum, but there's also a Sheath subforum - if you're wanting something custom. Otherwise, have you tried places like KnivesShipFree? He's not only a Fiddleback dealer but also keeps a variety of production type sheaths in stock.

lol .. yeah, same handle scales. Looks pretty cool finished. Better than what I keep finding in my yard. :)

No worries. My daughter is the one having to wear mix-matched socks to school. :D

Apparently that's a thing now. Both my kids do this every day on purpose, as do their friends. Kids these days...

In a private school that requires an uniform except for socks .. one can 'express' their personality thru socks and shoe laces. Smh .. it's the little things in life.

LOL...I remember growing up without having matching socks, trying to cover it up so I don't get picked on.
Grew up in the wrong generation, I guess. :D
