SnG Lanyard Hole?

Greetings,
After looking fondly at my Tanto SnG I noticed something new. With the blade closed, the tip covers half of the two holes cross drilled through the G10 and Ti. It seems these "holes" could not be for a lanyard, and instead just for weight-reduction/aesthetics, as the blade would interfere with/cut a lanyard?
What's the deal?

Actually, you can thread it through both sides. I've been carrying mine with 550 paracord for about three weeks, and all that happens when the knife is closed is that the tip presses down on the cord, it doesn't cut it.

I'm with Pigsticker here but I think you can only do this with the spear point.? It works fine with my spear point and 2.5mm cord.
