Snow Hike With The Dog - Izula & Fire Kit Mini-Pron

lazy, post above this is my two dogs playing in snow, usally we are in woods. I would video us at cheesquake state park but I don't like to bring the phone with me to use as a camera. I would own a sweet camera if it wasn't for this dam knife addiction I can't kick. Better hahaha

adaman04, just something about the outdoors, snow, and a lab. Our black lab follows my wife around whenever she goes outside. She has the run of our property (7 acres), but she will come back every so often and "check" on my wife to see if she is ok, then off and running again. "Millie" is the first lab we have had, & I have never had a dog so protective & family oriented. Great shots also of your playground by the way, glad you enjoyed it.
Be safe.

took a quick pic of one of my dogs the other day.

Half Rotty, Half Doberman? Isn't that, like... three-quarters Grayhound?? :D

Just kiddin' around. I love Rottys (we've had two, still have one -- one passed on -- and the extended family has had 4, total). And I love Dobermans, too -- will probably be the next dog we get. But I had to rib ya, because I am under the impression that the Doberman was a descendant of the Rottweiler, crossbred with grayhounds to make a better "pursuit" dog.

Sorry for the digression, Adaman. Looks like a awesome time, and a great woods friend ya got there.

nice dog! i haven't taken my golden retriever hiking yet since most hikers i've seen here let their dogs loose. most dogs are really nice but i had one incident last fall where there were a pair of them that were really barking and growling at me while biking. i literally had to go behind my bike for cover until the dumbass owner caught up to them. with that in the back of my mind, i'm afraid the next time that happens i might over-react and the lite machete comes out when one of theirs comes near my dog :o

as for the pack, i've upgraded to a 65 liter hiking pack now even for day hikes to replace my maxpedition falcon ii. with the same weight, it just feels much more comfortable with most of the weight on my hips rather than on the shoulders...but now i can carry a lite machete, junglas, bk-2, esee-4 and my soon to be here full-size axe no problem :D

Nice pics Adam, looks like you had a good time. I haven't been hiking in the mountains in about 3 months now, starting to get the itch.

JV3 thats quite the tool box your hiking with!

Looks like this has turned into the "show your dog" thread. I can get with that. Love my dogs.

This is Kane.

and this is the holy terror Dexter. He does not play well with others and has a propensity for taking knives.

Great thread and pup. I love getting out with my dog, she's like a kid in a candy store and makes me all happy just watching her. Definitely beats a day a work!

well, i hike to play with knives. once i find a good spot to camp i stop there. i don't have a set distance to go. they're toys to me, not just a survival tool. like dizwolf said, "i don't do that hippy ultra-light crap" :D

I definitely wouldn't consider myself ultra light, carrying 20 lbs on a day hike. I guess as I get older though, the less I want to carry.

This post got me going. Decided to head for the hills this morning. Ended up hiking a few miles and scouting out some camp sites for a spring trip I have planned.

Yeah I know what you mean man. By the time I get done packing crap, 50L is borderline too small. :D The worst part is I never use any of it. I just rebuilt my double-redundant fire kit and it still fits in a pocket. Good exercise I guess. They always say it's not the destination, it's the journey getting there. As much crap as I tote sometimes, getting there is the best part! :D

I always seem to overpack, or take nothing at all. Can't seem to find the middle ground.

Cricket that picture is disturbing..... !! Kinda seems distorted or something, you should post that up as an avatar..

Adam thanks for the journey.. Looks like we'll be getting some of that white stuff our way in the next day or so.. :)

I have that exact pack.. absolutely love it, most comfort I've found time and again..
