I hate it when it snows around here. The people in the Seattle area are the worst drivers in the snow you could imagine.

We got 7 or 8 inches and all these darn hills make for quite an adventure.

First real snow we've had in 3 years.

I suppose it'll take me 2 hours to get to work. Maybe I'll drive through Starbucks on the way

I miss Montana where everyone knows how to drive in it

...and the ice, and the rain, and the sun, and... dang, you'd think with the SUV/human ratio around here... nah.

Got yelled at last time I went through Montana.

Being from Honolulu I still get excited when it's snowy out though.

It's the stinkin' SUV mentality that's most of the problem...."Gee, I have a 4x4 so I can drive like a moron and go fast!"

"The salesman at the dealership said I can do anything in it." Yeah right...I have yet to see a 4x4 that STOPS any better than a car.

Oh, you don't have to tell me about the SUV mentality. Seems like I take my life into my hands every time I go out on my bicycle, always turns into a game of "dodge the distracted caffeinated cell-phone-yapping soccer mom"...

When I said I'd drive through Starbucks, I meant DRIVE THROUGH Starbucks!

That's kinda what I thought you meant at first. :-)
I would have thought that Seattle's far enough north to get lots of snow. I've never been there, but I hear you get a lot of rain.

Drive wasn't bad. Everyone stayed home so I got to work pretty quickly.

Kids are bummed out because all the major school districts are closed except ours.

Looks like it might be a good weekend for some snow camping.

Being from the other side of the cascades I can pretty much say the same thing, except the snow around here does seem to have a different quality, probably because of the lack of cold. My SUV is neither sporty nor does it have a lot of utility (Explorer Sport)but it does let me not give a rip where I throw the diapers and I don't feel a need to wash it regularly. I learned about SUVs the HARD WAY as a kid and am intimately aware of thier limitations -- which are many. For a real adventure try riding your bike in Ballard. Just keep in mind that your last view in life may be of a puff of blue hair behind the steering wheel of an ancient Buick. The phone glued to the ear crowd deserves this weather, though. It disrupts thier "schedule" and they actually have to spend a whole day cooped-up with kids as penance for thier driving sins. Either way, I have the day off. Have fun!

Howard, the school district I live in is like yours: Its the last one to cancel school. I feel your children's pain.

Ya'll got that right about DUMB drivers. The 4X4'rz don't realize that you can have 10 wheel drive and still not be able to stop or keep from sliding on a patch of ice.

Yeah, Sure, 2 days ago it was sunny here in Bremerton, and today I have over 10" on top of my car port deck.

My Suburu wagon does pretty damn good in the snow as long as I drive like its snowy instead of sunny!
Hope it warms up pretty soon, I don't know how much more weight my deck will hold

I live next to the airport, a place Uncle has been through a number of times on his trips to Nepal, and I have 6-7 inches of very wet snow in my yard. We need this snow in the mountains to get our snowpack closer to normal levels so we can have water and power this summer.

On the subject of 4x4's, a state trooper I have known for a number of years used to work one of our major mountain passes. He told me he could spend the entire winter in the Caribbean if it weren't for the folks driving the 4x4's.

Here in Colorado we get some bad snow. I hate to say it but I can't help but laugh when I see a rolled over SUV on a slick street! These people that buy SUV's because there the "in" thing kill me! It seems only "soccer moms" buy them now! I own an 89 K5 Blazer spicifically to go camping/offroading in. Most SUV's today will never touch a dirt road. To be honest with you my Saturn with traction controll is just as good if not better on ice or deep snow then any 4x4 I've driven!

When I lived at Tahoe, went over Echo Summit with a Ranchero ( pickup on a sedan body ) and just made it thru the checkpoint before they slapped chain requirements on. Just short of the summit some jerk spun out in front of me and I had to brake. That did it. One more mile and I'd have been headed down the other side. #&@%$*(~ !

Point is, even with almost no weight on the rear wheels, and without snow tires, I would have made it if I'd kept traction. But of course, an idiot came along... so I had to put chains on for that mile. I didn't have a khukri then, but I'll bet if I'd dug some dirt and got going...

When I lived up in Wasington and Oregon on the western side of the Cascades it wasn't called rain.
Rain was known as Liquid Sunshine.
smile.gif

And if it wasn't for family and friends and responsibilities I would be up there right now somewhere around Eugene Oregon in the Willamette Valley or on over around Coos Bay, who knows, maybe on up in Washington in a less crowded area.

Dayum I love that country up there!!!!

"Lack of cold" on the eastern side of the Cascades?

Not like I remember back in the '40's and 50's. Of course the winters don't seem near as bad anywhere as they used to be.
The only places I remember being as cold or colder than Eastern Oregon was in Montana and Texas.
In Texas the temp may not have been as low, but it dayumed sure Felt colder!!!!

The SUV drivers are the same everywhere. And most are like all the pretty pick-em-up-trucks in and around Phoenix and Scottsdale in that they will never haul a load of feed or the substance left after the cows and horses eat it. Let alone get off road and get it dirty or scratched.

And I just Thought that Tulsa had most of the worst drivers anywhere.
That's before we went to Little Rock last week end.
Those people are Absolutely Crazy!!!
If I had to live there I would get me a four door Tank!!!
smile.gif

I do have to give the people in and around Tulsa a little bit of credit this year. It seemed that almost everyone drove slower and more politely during the extra bad winter we've had this year.
And we don't even want to talk about the cost of Natural Gas this year!!!!
It has went up as much as 150% for some people, perhaps even more for a few.
Fortunately our little house is very well insulated and it has really paid off this year. Our gas bill didn't even go up 50%, at least not yet.

Actually, it wasn't bad at all. Real wet and slushy. Most dimwits stayed home.

But the newscasters are still hyping it up pretty bad.....WINTER STORM 2001!!!!!!!!

....and Rene, I don't know, but there might be more Oklahoma boys.

Well, snow isn't all bad -- just spent a good two and a half hours outside with my roommates, making mutant snowmen and having snowball wars. We take what we can get!

rdnzl - - I live half the time in Seattle and half the time in eastern Washington where I have a farm. I drive over Snoqualamie Pass 4-8 times per month. I much rather drive there than in Seattle in a snow storm because of the idiot drivers! At least the traffic is usually moving on the pass. - - Having lived in eastern Washington and the Cascade Mountains and Colorado, I can vouch for how little the people here seem to know about snow driving or about a little common sense. One thing good, is that the road traffic is pretty light cause everyone stayed home. Regards, - - Pointshoot
