It was 9 F when we headed out this morning but reached a balmy 20 F by midday. We only did about 8 or 9 miles but given the icy conditions I feel like it was 20 and despite the temps I was sweating like a pig. The sun, snow, ice and crystal clear conditions made for a gorgeous and at times dramatic hike.

looks like an awsom time. the snow pics are really cool too  . i have lived in oklahoma for 1.5 winters, and i havent seen half that much snow cumulativly.

Always love those type of views with ice crusted vegetation. Harriman or Bear Mtn park same stuff 50 miles apart eh?!

One of the coolest things about walking through ice encrusted mountain laurel, which is omnipresent around here, is the noise it makes. Almost like a wind chime. This was in the Ramapo Mountain ridge in Harriman.

Mmmm! very pretty!

Not much snow here so far but were have been promised a couple of inches this week.

Great Stuff. :)

It seems like we’ve had a lot of snow on the ground this season.

Great pics all. Got a bit more snow this morning here in the Hudson Valley of NY, 3"+ I guess. Most of my outdoor time today was chopping the rest of the ice off of the driveway and shoveling it away with the wife and child but fun nevertheless. Been checking tracks related to the recent posts too, easier now with the new snow. Big Mike-what kind of camera do you use, your shots always seem particularly crisp. My dog would love hiking in the snow but at 10" at the shoulder I'd lose her quickly!

Winter Wonderland! Great pictures and looks like a great day to be out despite the temps!
I like hiking in winter!

Beautiful pics! Thanks for posting. It's 76F here today, I was really hoping we would have something resembling winter, but no luck.
