Snubby

Snubs are awesome! Had to sell mine to pay some bills, but I enjoyed carrying it the short amount of time I had it.

BladeHQ has the CQC-14 SF Snubby with stainless steel liners. Can someone confirm that?

Particularly like the long 4.875" handle for the 2.75" blade length.

Emerson factory rep says -- "One side (of the liners) is stainless and the other is Titanium -- and that's true of all of our knives."

If the lock side is a titanium liner then we're back to the old lock stickiness issue!

^^Yes but the stickyness goes away with breaking in the knife as experienced with those that I own. Yes, locking side is titanium and the nonlocking side is stainless steel.

Each Emerson model seems to wave open a little bit differently.

With the blade being so short, can the Snubby be consistently waved open?

I admire Mr. Emerson and his work, but updating his designs to deal with the sticky locks is long overdue.

First off Sticky locks aren't really that bad in comparison to lock slip. That being said though, almost all of my emersons (I have 5 currently) there is only 1 that still has a sticky lock and I can fix that every other week with 5 minutes and some sharpie. While it isn't ideal, it really isn't a functional issue but unless it takes like a prybar to unlock then it's not really that bad for a hard use tool that can take a beating if needed.

Secondly that isn't really updating his designs that's more of adding to a good design since as far as designs go his aren't really outdated. Calling an emerson outdated would be like calling a Chris reeve sebenza outdated because there's no lock insert or overtravel/lockbar stop

While i cant attest to the Snubby, im just gonna point out the obvious:

If legalities are a primary motivator, consider the implications of carrying a karambit (especially with the name "combat"), regardless of length.

Just something to consider.

I agree with this. I have the lagriffe and seldom carry it even though it is small just because it looks so damn mean.

Did you get one? If so, how do you like the size and relative to your other 2.75" blade knives? How's the action and lock stickiness?

I did. Still breaking it in.

It was sticky -- but not nearly as sticky as my first Sheepdog (which I had to return because it locked up) or my replacement (which was nearly as bad at first but is now breaking in after using up one Sharpie and starting on a second.)

The Stubby is unlike any of my other 2.75- inch knives. Most of them could be classified as so-called dress knives.

Not the Stubby. Like most Emersons, it is big and heavy. The handle is full size -- nearly identical to that of the Sheepdog. Only the blade is Stubby.

It is aimed at people who live where knife size is restricted. But I like it because of its smaller size.

The blade is just as thick as Emerson's larger models and appears to be just as strong.

I love the ergos - particularly the comfortable handle choil.

The Stubby makes a fine EDC for someone who wants a smaller but powerful pocket folder.

Recommended. Highly. But be sure to buy some Sharpies too.

It's called Snubby not Stubby. I guess the Snubby is a stubby folder! :)

I like full length handles of 4 inches for blades under 3 inches. There's a Spyderco Delica Kahr Arms with a full handle but a 2.5" blade for locations where that's the law like Chicago.

I spent two weeks applying sharpie to my Emerson Sheepdog Bowie and finally got it fixed. A royal pain in the thumb! :)

The annoying and ever-present sticky titanium liner lock issue with Emersons is fixable. Look at Fantoni's titanium liner locks. Never had even a hint of a sticky lock from day one on my HB01 and HB02 folders.
