Snugpak - Rocketpack 70 - TONS OF PICS

Would you reccomend it for a first time hiker/backpacker/camper?
I like the looks of it!

absolutely, the price range doesn't go to the skies like some name brands. you won't wreck it no matter what, and it'll hold all the gear you need plus the gear you don't! haha we all carry a little of that stuff.
i really feel that snugpak is making some tough gear for a good price that doesn't mess around, it's simple and works.
for me this is an upgraded military surplus bag. it's the perfect in between. it's NOT a one year or one trip bag, and it's also not a bag that will rip your wallet from your pocket.

if there are any more photos, or in use shots that anyone would like to have a look at to help them with their leanings, let me know

i've really found it to be a very useful pack. mostly the rockets stay off and it's a great, rugged pack that way... it's also nice to have the added room to grow, it has come in handy, more often than i'd have thought

Here's the only picture I have of it in-use... behind my brother-in-law's head.

I don't usually bring a camera with me on my backwoods camping trips and as you can see from the photo, that wasn't one of them!

Edit: Before anyone gives me hell about car camping, it wasn't my idea. Plenty of beer was had, though.

I have a Sleeka and a Bergen, both awesome packs...I would like the Rocket as well...Snugpak makes great stuff.

i'm just barely under 6 foot (5'11 and a half....always wanted to be six foot. never made it haha...) i wouldn't tend to recommend it for a frame larger than my own, i'm 175lbs and pretty fit.

Thanks for that, guess I'll pass on it, seems it'd be too small for me.

Is there anywhere to strap a medium to large sized knife and sheath?

I'm looking to get something exactly like the snugpak stamina or rocket for extra versatility. I want to have some gear especially knives available without having to open up the pack itself.

great review and pics.. i have a Snugpak Sleeka Force 35.. i love the design of it.. it's a cool pack, nice and simple... my only complaint is the hip belt rides pretty high.. luckily i am not that tall and can adjust to ride fairly comfortably..

Nice review, I've got the same pack in green. I haven't used it yet but it's definately a quality piece of gear. I'm 6'1" maybe 6'2" and it's alright but I think it would be better if I was a bit shorter.

One thing that I find interesting about this pack is the belt, it's more of a waist belt than a hip belt (I guess that's so it doesn't get in the way of all the stuff on a soldiers actual belt) so I'm not sure if it distributes the packs weight as well as one with a hip belt (like I said I haven't used mine yet) or if it does that at all, it would at least stabalize the pack. That feature does help if you carry a knife or other things on your belt though (which I assume quite a few people on here do).

About how tall are you guys that own this pack? I've heard it doesn't work so well for taller people, which is something of a concern for me at 6'3. I like the design of it with the rocket pockets.
It doesn't.
The hip pad is a waist pad. It doesn't allow the weight of the pack to be carried by the hips, especially in taller folks. If you want something similar, and better designed, go with a Rivendell mountain works.dot com, Giant, and order the side pockets. It comes in five different sizes to fit you.
Here is how to measure yourself.

Don't make the assumption you wear a large or XL. I'm 6 foot 2 and wear a "medium", 18 inch torso.
