Got mine in today's mail and glanced through it and did a double-take: A 25 pc. limited edition Nyala with Tamboti scales - looks pretty good!

I'm quite fond of micarta as a handle material and it's no doubt a better choice as far as practicality goes, but I do think that wood suits the style of the knife better than the original brown micarta handle. The difference is subtle in the picture but I bet in the hand it's more noticable. :)

The wood grain on that looks gorgeous. Only 25 - I'm surprised these are still available.

It's an interesting idea. The Tamboti probably machines a lot like Micarta or other synthetics - I've never worked with Tamboti but a lot of those tropical hardwoods are really dense, like G10 or Micarta...and some are more toxic to breathe. :( CRK has an eye for wood. These could be striking. Wonder what it would look like in mammoth bark ivory? :D

I love wood but I am always scared of using a knife that has wood handles. They can get wet causing them to swell, contract and crack. Eventually they will just break.

Tropical hardwoods typically are extremely dense and have a lot of oil in them. Not sure about Tamboti specifically, but they tend to be very durable.

A pair of quick pics. Getting the color of the Tamboti right is hard. It's better looking in person.

Well, for starters, it says "Idaho Made" - my Micarta Nyala doesn't. :D Beyond that, it's very nice. Probably less bullet-proof in the field...but it's warmer and better looking. I really like Micarta, but hardwoods have a charm all their own. To be honest  I looked at the number available (25!), figured the price wasn't all that much higher than the regular Nyala (about 20% doing the math in my head before coffee) and figured I'd order one on spec, as it were. :)

Your micarta is more brown than mine. Mine has a more orange tint to it. I agree with the warmth of wood.

That does look good!

Y'know, when the Nyala was first introduced, I was kind of surprised that it wasn't offered with any hardwoods (seemed un-CRK like for some reason).
