So, CBN free abrasive sucks?

I think of grit on a piece of wood as an inexpensive way to make a high grit hone. Pennies worth of metal polish on a scrap of MDF has obvious appeal over a $100 stone - cheaper, no soaking, no lapping, no cleaning.

Yeah man! Of all the stuff I have at my disposal, one of my most used strops is Tormek paste on wood haha! It’s a fantastic method. I love how cheap it is, and it does really negate any hard need for a finishing stone. Will that stop me from buying more finishing compounds and stones? No. But that’s only because I’m insane.

And for the coarser finishing, I'll stick with the Kent Supplies diamond pastes. Never had an issue... and they were way cheaper lol

I have a piece of basswood with 40mic diamond and 24mic diamond on each side. The compound is cheap oil based product from a dealer in homg kong.
I keep it on my side by side and use it on my cheap chopper and boys axe as well as the morakniv in the glove box and it does a quick, dirty job rejuvenating edges.
Dirt cheap and it works.

No doubt beans. When I go fishing I sometimes put a worm on a bobber and find river stones to sharpen my cheapie fillet knife. I have a beater O2 camp knife that has been sharpened on many alternative abrasives.
The chinese diamond paste is a great and cheap way to mess around.
I get my better stuff from the place I buy my cooking knives from.
It is better than the bargain stuff but not to expensive.
