Well, I want to start getting some steel to get into the hang of knifemaking. I've been making knives out of files forever now and I want to finally get into doing it properly. The only problem is, I can't find steel?

Where do Canadians get steel from? There are quite a few Canadian knife makers so there must be a place here or that ships here. Where do you guys get your steel from, and do they ship to Canada?

Give them a shout; Rob knows a thing or two and Marylin is so sweet. They usually answer any question I have pretty fast!
Have you ever bought strips of steel from them? I'm not exactly skilled in pounding out billets, so I hope these steels are in strips!

The steel is in bar form and can be used for both stock removal and forging. Where are you located, fill out your profile so people know where you are and may be able to give you local suppliers or makers.

Well, you can buy the whole sheet from them but they usually sell in bars by the inch. Rob have all sorts of bar dimensions. He really aim to please, and I always have been satisfied.

Sorry about that. I'm located in Montreal, QC.

I'll fill out my profile in a sec.

Where does that come from? I suggest you edit your post asap.
Not as if it'll matter considering you quoted me.

There's a general dislike of those people in Canada, which is why I say that.
People think because I am from Quebec that I must automatically fit into every stereotype they have of French Canadians, even though those stereotypes are wrong and my family isn't French at all.

Now that that is done/over with, I also need advice on a grinder/sander. I have been using just my Brother's handheld angle grinder until now. While I know the size is somewhat small and I would be better off with a 2x72 belt grinder, would a grinder like this be functional or is there a special type made for steel?

Well, I'm French Canadian and proud to be. I *very* rarely experienced this "dislike" you're talking about, and I've dealt with quite a lot of people now, from many places. If you really believe the stereotype is wrong, I suggest you don't contribute to it. Back to our regular program...
