So, does REKAT still exist or what?

HAHAHAHAHA...I don't think so...I just traded-off my one and only Spydie (Dyad Jr.) for a Smiths' Tri-Hone Sharpener..

Glockman, how could you? You'd been extolling the virtues of the Dyad to anyone who'd listen. Tell you what: get yourself the full-sized version in micarta (instead of that FRN stuff...) and just try to force yourself to trade that one away.

Oh yeah, get a Lum Chinese folder too. But I digress.

I decided to buy a Hobbitt warrior a couple of months back, and did some online price comparisons. After finding the best price on a new one, I made the phone call to order. The lady on the line told me that "Bob" (sorry, unfamiliar with the people from REKAT) was retiring and they were out of hobbitts and would not be receiving any more of them from rekat. I called another shop, they had one left, and I ordered it immediately. It also seems strange that their website was not up when I was looking for more info on the knife.

Investment Alert: Rumor about Bob (Brother?) retiring? If that's true, how would that impact the future availability of current model Rekat knives? The plot thickens.

It's Brothers. I guess we'll see if they DO monitor this forum by their response (or lack of), regarding this new rumor about "Bob" retiring...:).

Went back and double checked the sites I had searched when I ordered. discountknives.com has a listing for a 1095 hobbit for 90 bucks, I'm almost sure this is who I called first and was told Bob was retiring, in case anyone may want to check the source out for themselves. Oh, check out 1sks.com, the only rekats shown now are savants.

We'll be re-adding many of the products shortly. Don't take 1SKS as the gospel on *everything*

Kevin

I have given up on REKAT. They obviously do not care about us, so I will take my business to a knife company that does care about its consumers. Companies like Microtech, Spyderco, and Benchmade DO care about their customers. They respond to posts, and actively participate in threads.

Good Bye REKAT, you have lost me. It's just too bad that you do not care.

Even if the rumours of REKAT are untrue, it is really not good publicity for the company. I would encourage REKAT to release a company response one way or the other.

Quite frankly, only they know what are the problems, if any.

Let's break it down:

STRENGTHS:

1. They have excellent products that can compete with other specialty knife companies.

2. Their after sales service is highly reputed.

So what's the problem?

- Need better management?
- They're overinvested in the company?
- Not enough promotions? Yeah. They seem pretty low-profile.
- Lack of distribution channels? Definitely!!
- Do they have a big enough target market? Are they reaching their target market?

Hopefully, everything will sort themselves out. My first piece of advice would be to market themselves a bit better especially in the area of distribution. Why is it that a major knife and cutlery stores don't carry REKAT?

For example, I live in Canada and "House of Knives" is a major retailer of cutlery across the country. They have been in business for over 10 years and carry everything from Spyderco, CRKT, Cold Steel, Emerson, etc. But no REKAT!

Gee, I see some good ones here. Everything is as it was. All is fine. After four years with out a vacation we all took a long one and some took two. It’s been a fun summer.
But just to add to the scuttlebutt I do have one to add.
Tune into the Art Bell show to find out what happened while we were gone. ;)

Mystery Solved! It's good to hear that you're back, Bob--see how much some of us have missed you? (It was fun while it lasted).

I was cleaning my SE "grooved-less" D2 Sifu last night (after neglecting it for months) and kept thinking about the excellent job you and Mike did on this knife. It feels kinda "eerie" that I hear from you again--after an extended absence--the very next morning.

Nonetheless, welcome back. The only question I have now is ...er, how do I tune into the "Art Bell show"?

When will the new Savants be available? I've seen pics and they look really sweet! The aluminum should work great with the rolling lock, but when can we get them?

YIPEEE!!! REKAT DOES STILL EXIST!!!

Okay guys! Bring on the new stuff! I'm in the mood for some new REKATs!!
