My first Becker, a BK2, came in today. Wow. What a beast. I'm seriously impressed. BK7 moving quickly to the top of my wish list.

And the question - anyone know where I can get black micarta handles for that beast? The only thing that I find lacking is the gripiness (is that even a word?) of the Grivory handles. Would like to have something with a little more texture to hold onto. Or suggestions to improve if black micarta isn't available.

But, geez, that is a knife. Yeah. It got my attention. ;)

Thanks!

wrap some hockey tape on the handle, it will help sooo much

The only problem that I have with that is dealing with tape peeling off or folding back while in use in the middle of nowhere. I've taped machetes and such before with varying levels of success. I'm sure that would work, though. Thanks!

Get a dremel tool and sipple it ;)

Actually have the ole dremel sitting out right now for something else that I'm doing. Would be nice to come up with a pattern of some sort. Need to think that one through a bit. But, yeah, roughing up the handle would sure be one way to get there. :)

Tomar's has the brown micarta but I can't recall if anyone sells black.

Yeah. Saw that, but not fond of the brown-on-black look. Might turn out to be the best choice if no one knows of anyone selling them in black. I did a google search with no success which is why I was hoping someone here might know who sells 'em.

All stippling I have seen done has been done with a soldering iron..

Just get the micarta and use black rit dye to dye it black like you want.

Ah! Haven't worked with micarta before so I didn't know that it would take dye. That is a very cool suggestion.

Easiest fix i know (and used) was just putting a tight piece of rubber inner tube over the handle

I thought that you used a dremel but I can see the soldering iron working!! Idk Bsmith_shoot hooked mine up ;) lol

BK2 is an awesome first Becker. It is such a special knife. I would suggest getting the BK9 instead of the 7 as your next Becker.

You can't not have a 9.

The BK2 rocks!
Something about the grivory scales that I have come to notice - while the micarta scales feel grippier, the grivory actually provides more traction when wet or sweaty.
I have naturally sweaty hands and the grivory performs well, especially during extended use.
Give the grivory a chance before you dismiss it. :D

rough it up a bit and rit dye, done per the directions, will stick very well and not run on your hands. I did a set for my junglas and have not seen a problem with it yet.

The Becker BK2 is a tank. The BK7 and BK9 are also neat. You can get Becker Micarta handles. The best I ever saw was from the Camillus Beckers (green micarta) and sadly no longer in production, but others do exist. I have not seen black.

I am a BCCI Life Member myself.

Congrats on your first Becker. A 2 is a great choice!! Love my 2

The Knife Connection sells G-10 scales for Beckers. A little pricier than the stock Ka-Bar micarta, but they come in a variety of colors, including black.

A quick fix is buy some cohesive tape (doesn't use glue but it will stick to itself) to wrap the scales. Also know as cohesive bandage.
Tanker mentioned it as well, buy the natural brown micarta and dye them black with RIT. Im not sure where you're from but around here, I can find RIT in my local grocery store.

I can recomend stippling with soldering iron. It very simple, and what you get is perfect grip. You can design it as you want. Look at my BK2 photos.
That way,you will still have black handles and super grip.

Congrats on the BK2. It is a beast and a great gateway Becker drug. Soon you will have a BK9, and either a bk14/11/24 and some type of tweener!

Post some pics!!! :D
