My BB13 is ordered but how do I sharpen it? WorkSharp? Stones? My trusted sharpmaker? If any of you have experience with big recurves please let us know

Thanks

Thanks Rob and Big Fatty

I plan on using these beasts so all info is welcomed

All my big users end up getting reprofiled with the HF 1x30. I assume that the BG BB13 will get the same treatment.

With such a long blade and relatively gentle curves, I expect to be able to touch it up with a Spyderco ceramic and strops.

The 1x30 is my go-to for any reprofiling these days, but especially on big blades.

I still do mostly freehand sharpening for a micro bevel after the belts or touch-ups. For big blades I can get by with using a Spyderco medium rod in hand, using it almost like a file.

The curves on the BB13 aren't too crazy. Should be fine to use my waterstones and strop. If not, i plan to pick up some ceramic rods or steel rods for the HUCK anyway. Will use those on the BB13 too if i must!

On my Kuks or any other recurve I use an edge pro with the slimmer stones. 1/2 inch goes into even the tightest curves.

I'm here all week... ;) :p :D

For quick touch ups, I've used my Sharpmaker on my 1111.
For more aggressive sharpening, the Worksharp does great on thick/longer blades, although it will only do convexed edges.

Just a flat stone...just keep the part you're working perpendicular to the stone and then once the apex is no longer reflecting light, use a spyderco rod to finish at a slightly higher angle.

I have a buffer and use felt and leather wheels with compounds. The edge repairs I do on a belt sander.
