my wife asked me the other day how many firekits i had...she said and i quote " you are always making one, how many do you need? i mean what is it about them why do you need so many? you are such a dork." well my love married this dork and well little does she know but i have been grooming her...when she makes a fire in the fireplace she cant use the gas...i make her use tinder and a steel ( i say i cant find a lighter and it saves money to not use gas.. it works...) she is getting an education and she actually likes it too...one of these days i am gonna tell her what i have been doing!!!

Link won't let me in. Must be in a "members only" area:confused:

I dont have seperate kits per se, I just have a whole bunch of different methods that I mix and match to take with me on trips. I have a fire bow, ferro rod, strike anywhere matches, waterproof matches, and a bic lighter. As for tinder I keep around fire sticks, pj cotton balls, birch bark, and possibly some char cloth.

Um. My wife uses that term for me quite a bit too. You think she's being affectionate???

i have 3 kits as we speak working on one for my son,to use under supervision or in a real life & death emergency.....

Whenever I go through my survival gear I am always finding a new one. I must have 10.
A few in each car, 2 in the BOB, 1 in my minikit, 1 always on me.

Some are just bags of tinder: cottonballs, dried grasss, fat wood dryer lint. I have a few tupperware containers filled with tinder ready for when I practice.

Today, I made some char-cloth. That will get dispersed through a bunch of kits.

I have six of these, made from deerskin. They contain a ferro rod, hacksaw blade, fatwood, charcloth, and cotton balls. Neat little kits and they were fun to make.

I have at least that many too....I make them up when I'm bored...or when I go through my stuff to "check" on my supply levels. My buddies think I'm odd, but guess who they come to when they need a pocketknife, bandaid, lighter, etc?
