So...I did something stupid today....

Try something next time. Come off the 1000 or 1500 (somewhere in there depending on what you have) then go straight to a soft leather strop loaded with 12000 or higher. Go 10 passes on the left, 10 on the right, 5 left, 5 right, 2 and 2, 2 and 2, then alternate for 3-5 strokes and see how that suits you. (Always stropping with very low pressure)

That is a fun edge that serves both camps pretty well. Be careful if you try to shave arm hair, it'll bite you;)

You can put a micro on it for touchups using the same practice, but stropping a microbevel requires a pressure about the same as an Angel's whisper;) practice it, you'll love it once you get it.

Will do. Tried something similar once but went from 3k to 12k. Hah, believe me I know, about the biting. I'm careful so the worst I got today was a little skin split from that sticky sticky edge.

I did something similar once. I was at a family outing and a family member asked for a knife. I handed him my damascus mnandi. I then turned around to see what he was using it for and yelled...NOOOOOOOOOO.......!!!!! They were gonna use the tip of my mnandi blade as a philips screwdriver.....!!! Thank God I stopped them when I did or it would have been ruined. The blade never made it to the screw, but after that, I have never loaned a CRK to anyone.....lol.

NOW, I say, NOPE, I do not have a knife ;)

I get a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I hand someone on of my knives. But the worst damage I did to a blade was opening a kids toy, now usually to open kids toys you need bolt cutters, screw gun, blow torch and jumper cables. But I foolishly went to cut what I thought was a cardboard twist tie and it had a good size wire in it it tore up the blade a bit. I still hate Dora for it.

When I first started reading I thought for sure your blade was going to be snapped. I am quite glad everything worked out for you.

I get nervous when someone asks to borrow my knife. It doesn't happen often, but the last time was when my brother-in-law asked to borrow my Spyderco Wegner. I was helping him do some AC work in his mom's attic and he needed to cut some duct. About 30 seconds later he has blood running down his hand and an embarassed look on his face.

"You sure DO keep your knife sharp, huh?"

"Yes. Yes I do," I replied.

He hasn't asked to borrow my knife since.

I have a "Superknife" to loan out whenever anyone asks to borrow a "knife". :D
My personal knives are way "too" sharp for the chuckleheads I work with.

I was afraid you were going to say he started digging around in some area on the rig and scratched the heck outta the blade. Something irreversible. Glad that did not happen!

I really like the people I work with most of the time. Most of them know my knives are sharp. The first time I offer my knife to someone, I ask if they want a band aid also. This generally gets their hackle up (and gives them something to prove, so it's rare that anyone gets cut).

Too sharp is in the same category as too much money, and overqualified...it should never be a problem;)
