So I got an XM-18

I would agree wholeheartedly with Scott here. We are as critical of CRK's as anyone in this subforum, voicing our likes and dislikes in about every thread. The only thing we don't complain about in this subforum is price since most of us have pulled the trigger not once but multiple times. :)

charlo I don't agree we post plenty on cons in this forum. Do a search the difficulty in unlocking the umnum has been rehashed more than once.

There is still allure for me with the Xm-18 to be sure, and as we are passionate about our CRK's, my guess is that Hinderer fans recognize quality every bit as well as we do. Now, to find a 3" flipper...

I'll always be a Regular Sebenza guy at heart though.

Professor.

I owned both (regular large Sebenza and an XM-18 3.5" flipper). The XM-18 is still with me. I was stoked for a while to own 'the Trinity' but the CR was always the least desirable, beautiful and comfortable to me. I also don't like hollow grinds much, will take FFG or saber grind any day. The Sebenza is the only high-end folder I ever sold. It's well made, but IMHO nothing special, I never saw anything that justified its price, whereas other high-end folders I own do so, sometimes in spades.

Totally subjective thread based upon what? The look of the XM's Ti liner was thin?

Come on.

Pitting two great makers against each other in a CRK forum is trolling IMO.

I obviously think both makers are good to go.

 I'd feel more comfortable with this thread if it were in the general section or review section.

I own both and won't state a preference here, but I will say that I carry and use my Sebenzas more because I can disassemble and easily reassemble them when needed, which is not the case for pretty much any other knife.

Try taking apart an XM-18 or any other custom knife and then try to reassemble it perfectly with the blade centered the first time--it's no easy task. If nothing else, CRKs have this major advantage over all others, and I don't think it can be stressed enough.

I got a 3" flipper....it about the same size as my small micrata sebbie.....I EDC the sebenza, and after some time with the XM, it will stay this way.

The XM seems to be all the rage now these days, and i don't quite get how anyone thinks this is tougher than the sebenza. The only way, i guess, you could consider it tougher is when it comes to the blade. But I use ky knife to cut, not pry, so this is null in my book. The titanium portion of g10 side is quite thin, looks thinner than even the pocketclip on the knife:confused:

The action is no where near i would expect it to be, no CR smoothness that i have became acustom too.

Ergos are pretty sweet on the XM, so i will keep it. But if any of the CRK loyalists are wondering if maybe they need to drop some outrageous price for the new kid on the block, forgetaboutit.

I did a comparison video I put on youtube with a gen2 XM-18 and I came up with the same conclusions mostly. And I had a gen3 recently. There's nothing wrong with the XM-18, I just prefer a Sebenza, and good for me because they're more affordable. The XM-18 is like a really really nice Strider SNG, not really comparable what the Sebenza was designed to do.

I don't consider a comparison pitting two makers against once another:confused:, obviously since i put it here(in this forum) i have a preference

It is item that is very elusive and many can't get their hands on one, so i thought i would give my input

All my notions about the XM came from forums, so i thought i would give my perspective

I am not the only one who compares the two, as a fact far from it

I'm glad they both exist, but in my mind i would rather have the sebenza for my uses.....

I see what Tricker is saying. I have 2 large Seb's and a 3.5" non-flipper XM. They are both great knives in different ways. As far as a manly-man's knife, the XM is the winner. It looks like it is made to be abused and not give up.

My needs are more suited to my Sebenza's, but then again I don't need 2 of those either. I know if I am camping and I need to open a can, I don't want to scrape up my polished Seb blade.

I am keeping both for sure.

I too agree this really should be in the General knife section.

As for me, I own a Mnandi, Sebenza 21, Sebenza Regular, XM-18 3 1/2 flipper. I still have on the list to get a Zann & XM-24.

I carry them all, different tasks..different knives for me. MHO only.

Have a good day!

Reading this thread makes me feel like I just took a crazy pill or something!

Let's just say, owning both, I think they are totally different knives......and leave it at that.

Ya, I had the "Trinity" (below) as well. Ended up selling all of them. However, I went the other way and only sold the large Sebenza to buy a small 21. Sold the rest to buy my Mnandi (okay, and a Seiko diver :)). I am sold on CRK.

My XM-18 is gone... and I don't miss it. Just figured I would throw the word out there, lol. It is a fine knife and the fit and finish are excellent, but I just prefer the Seb better. And it seems like Hinderer knives are extremely anal about the warranty. Put on a custom slab and your warranty for the whole knife is out the window from what I have been told.... I really did not like the G-10 scales of the XM-18. I had 3 different slabs and none of them made the knife look any better. If you want a big burly knife, then it is the knife to have. And yes if you did get down and real dirty with it.. then it will endure serious torture better then the seb. But I don't use my knives like that so there was no benefit to me of the Hinderer over the sebenza.

I have a SMF CC on the way. Gonna give that a shot and see if I like it better then a XM-18 for a BIG knife.

I totally agree.. i just sold my second and last XM-18 and while it is a awesome knife I just greatly prefer my Sebenza's. If I need something that damn tough I just grab one of my fixed blades wether it be a Busse or a ESEE.

Very true... the knife right now that I would grab if SHTF would be my BUSSE Boss street.. I don't think I have ever seen a knife that was more tough..
