But I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet. On the plus side the handle ridges and bumps are not sharp as I thought they might be, the overall shape and design seems perfect for a large field knife, and the 3/16ths stock with such a wide blade and flat grind should make a mean slicer.

But the handle has sort of a weird palm swell, and even though it's not heavy, it feels kind of clunky in hand. I will have to handle it more to really get a feel for it I guess. But it definitely is a cool looking knife and is really sharp.

With the heat gun and some forming, it fits nicely in the Survival Sheath I had ordered for it.

Looks great, Nice score

If your not happy w/ it at least you know its easy enough to sell.

Luckily I have yet to cactch the Busse bug

That is a nice looking blade and I too would much prefer the 3/16" blade. Great contours on the handle...keep us updated.

ROCK6

looks hefty...

i agree on the handle, i think it is too brutally contoured...not subtle enough i mean. like it would try to force your hand into an uncomfortable form.

I got to handle several Busses for the first time at the Blade Show. I know that the people that love them, they are great. For me, I didn't like it at all, which is good because I almost went ahead and ponied up the cheddar for big one not long before the show. The handle felt very strange to me. Like you said, the ridges weren't as rough as I thought they would be, but the rest of the shape was just crazy. I just couldn't get my hand used to it. Maybe it's an acquired taste or something. Maybe people see the beautiful INFI body and overlook the handle shape butterface. I don't know. I just know that they're not for me. Let us know if you get used to it though, or if that handle shape shows you some use that other handle shapes didn't give you that maybe I'm overlooking. Anyways, cool lookin blade. Use the hell out of it.

T - Great looking blade. I'll be interested to see how you end up liking the contours. Better get out and do some chopping with it and report back! I really like the feel of the grips on the FBM and the Hell Razor.

does it fit in that spec ops sheath no problem? or did you have to modify the liner? thanks

No, I had to modify the liner with a heat gun, but it only took about 15 minutes or so.

I really like the knife, but sometimes you pick a knife and it just feels perfect, or it just doesn't feel right. It's such an individual thing.

I think its a great knife...I have a hard time no taking it out with me..I feel like I am cheating my other big blades.

If that handle bugs you ... just trot out a piece of sandpiper, wet it down, and get to work.

In no time, you can produce a handle shape that pleases you much better.

And all it will cost you is some time and a little care.

With regard to the handles, you could always sand them down a bit to fit your preference. You won't really appreciate it until you get it out in the field and beat the hell out of it only to realize that the edge is still shaving sharp.

I like that one a lot. The only thing I'm not keen about is the swedge, but it probably isn't something that would get in the way too much.

Regarding Busse handles- I got to handle a few of them on Sunday including a battle mistress. I had to say - I sure as heck liked the feel of them. Looking at it, all those ridges made it appear uncomfortable. Then I grabbed hold of it and wow did that feel good!

I have to say though, the respirin C handle of one of the busse basics and a scrapyard that I held felt incredibly good. They were tacky but not sticky and firm with a little give. Hard to explain but felt like the perfect knife. I have to wonder why those busse basics don't make a come back! Sure they aren't as sexy as the once in a lifetime serpentine pattern that Jerry managed to get a hold of, but they sure do work as users!

One of these days I will go the Busse route. Its just Bearthedog keeps showing us all these great customs that are so damn reasonable and unique. Right now I find it hard to get off the customs kick and back to the production lines.

You need to 'inspect' a Busse Basic 9. Nine inches of Busse steel for less than $400.00. What a deal ... and a respirene handle to die for.

I've got mine ... :D

I have done a bit of chopping with my Sarsquatch. I found the handle to be quite comfortable for me. At least it's big enough. It may turn out to be my favorite Busse.

I was hoping that it was, it looks like the most well rounded of the designs for field work to me. I guess I will just have to break down and use it to know for sure.

Use it, that's the only way to truly enjoy it! Check out pictures from the (Mini) Norcal Chopfest #2.

That being said, I still don't have a Busse yet as they're quite expensive, but it won't be long before I get some...

I own 7 Busse's once my new CE Jack Hammer gets here. But with all the hogs claiming this model to being one of their favorites I might just have to pick up an 8th :D I should have added it to my last Ganza order, but o well. I hope the blade works out for you, if not send it my way ;)

the Sarsquatch has some good mojo in it.
for me it's an incredibly comfortable blade.
I'm not a "wilderness expert" though. I'm just somebody who loves the outdoors and the beautiful essence of design which comes alive in a nicely done blade.
