So i got the new RMK catalog in the mail.

Ron, I think you might be mixing apples and banana's at this point - my fingers are tired, so don't want to type another book as a response; and I think this could be explained verbally pretty quickly to boot. Ya might want to give me a call when you have a chance; my phone # is in the linked web address below.

Ron, you wrote:
I think i want a borer patrol handle but only if the single finger groove is of the #14 type, not the directional finger grooves...
You've described three different handles in a single sentence, and the way you wrote it suggests that they're the same.

The Border Patrol handle shape is contoured with no overt finger grooves. Here is one of my Denmark Specials with this handle shape:

The Single Finger Grip handle has a single finger grip, as its name suggests. Here is my latest Large Sasquatch with this handle shape:

The Finger Grip handle has four finger grooves. When specified on a full tang knife, they are quite deep, and ambidextrous. For any other knife, they are directional, meaning that you need to specify right- or left-handed. Although not mentioned in the catalog nor price list, you can specify #14 style finger grips, meaning that they are ambidextrous. I think that this is what you meant. I have a #19-4.5" with a Finger Grip handle and with the #14 style finger grips specified:

Well, err, i mean, dammit :( . The single finger grip is the one i was supposed to be talking about. option psychosis what can i say.

Thanks for pointing out my folly.

Well, I don't know, but unlike Sheldon and Ken, I kinda got a good laugh out of that. Maybe that was because I was imagining Val's reaction when you called her up and tried to order it that way.

I hope I had it all straight when i emailed the shop last week, maybe thats why they havn't replied yet :). they couldn't make sense out of it.

Ok all the convoluted writing aside, Is the single finger grip handle ambidextrous? I can't put it any plainer, I want it to be ambidextrous. From what I can tell on some pictures it appears to be swelled on one side, and relatively or apparently flat on the other of the ones i have seen.

It's pretty (mostly) ambidextrous, but then I'm right-handed, so who am I to say? I think it wouldn't hurt to specify LH if that's what you want.

All of my Single Finger Grip (and Border Patrol) handles are contoured such that they are ambidextrous, meaning that they feel the same regardless of which hand is holding it. The handedness issue comes up only with the Finger Grip handle, unless one specifies #14 Style finger grips.
