So I met with a neurosurgeon yesterday...

Blessings on you (and your doctor) sent from San Diego.

Smoke and prayers from NY for a smooth surgury and a full quick recovery.
Jim

Heal fast! Take the max sick leave anyway! I have a spare Sebenza front scale if you want to use that for your spinal modification.

I'm staying out of Political when you get back. :p

Fudge a duck mycroftt -- now I really feel bad about being a jerk to you... :p

My wife is a doc -- and she said them neurosurgeon guys are reaaallly good at those kinda operations now and they'll fix ya up lickety split.

Best wishes and good karma for you and your family

Good luck to you Mycroftt, I hope for your speedy recovery and to see you posting soon after the procedure. I'd also like to hear some more about those rugby parties 30 years ago - probably some good stories there!

God bless

What news?
He was to go in on Tues the 11th. Now it is Thursday.

Have any of the other mods heard a report?

I'm back. The surgery was a little dicey because the calcium deposits had almost worn through the dura, which is the tough sheath that surrounds the spinal cord. My surgeon told me I was thrashing around when he drilled down close to the cord so they had to screw extra supports into my thick skull to stabilize. So the surgery took around 5 hours instead of the usual 2 or 3. My doctor reports that we got every bit of the results we hoped for even though I "made him work for it." Currently, my left hand is mostly numb but my doctor says that will pass over a few weeks (it's already somewhat better - kind of tingly rather than just dead numb). Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wear a Miami J neck brace for about 6 weeks, but it's just to prevent sudden extreme movements - I can take it off to take a shower but I have to be conscious of not making extreme head movements.

I was on my feet staggering through the hallways in a drugged, disheveled, and semi-clothed state within about 6 hours of getting out of surgery (I think I was reliving my old college days). ;)

The prognosis is excellent, I feel strong, there is no real pain - just some discomfort, and life is good. Thanks for all the prayers and positive thoughts - it helps more than you might think.

Glad to hear you are on "the mend". I know about the neck brace thing (hence my original comment to you prior to the procedure to "keep your chin up.":D).

Good to have you back!

As long as the left hand is only partially disfunctional, we'll be expecting you back in the Arena soon with your new armor. If you need any thrashing done, just call me. :D

Good to see you back mycroftt, I hope you will be feeling like your old self soon. :)

His old self felt terrible, that's why he went for the surgery. :)
Hope he's feeling way better, and very soon!

Glad to hear things went well. Keep us informed on your progress.

I'm sorry I missed this (I've been absent from the modern world for quite awhile now).

Especially since he's a fellow Virginian.

Hoping everything works out well for you. :)
