So I pulled the trigger on a Needs Work based on the looks..what should I expect?

a sharp little assisted opener with a wharncliff blade that gives it a perfectly straight razorlike edge.

Lotsa bang for the buck even at knife store prices. Even more bang for the buck at good fleabay prices. You get 13C26 and A/O for 20 some bucks. You can't beat it with a stick. Now that being said, it's a nice knife you will find 100 uses for. Enjoy

The needs work is a great knife for the price. Feels solid in the hand takes a good edge (very sharp) looks good, solid feeling speedsafe action. Love the flipper! This knife really grows on you! What more can I say!:thumbup:

I thought *I* had ugly knives, but this one really takes the cake! Looks like an excellent user, though. Looking forward to hearing your take on it.

Just MHO but I think it's a pretty good looking knife.
Definitely a very good user. The ergos are great and
the AO kicks so hard there's acually a little recoil to it.

Been EDCing for about 5 months now. As a remodel contractor I find this style of blade works great. Sharpening is easy and takes a great edge. Almost lost it to my son when he saw it, so picked up one for him. Great knife! enjoy

I had one, but gave it to a student worker of mine as a gift. He loves that knife. Prior to the Needs Work, he carried a $5 made in China knock-off of the Spyderco Delica.

You can expect to start thinking how you can get your hands on another Kershaw, then another, then another...

It's some kind of drug they're puttin on them boxes, I tell ya it is...

It's a great knife, I have been carrying one every day since Christmas Eve.

I have had a couple problems with mine though.

1. The liner lock is a little loose. I just need to open up the knife and bend the liner a little more to the right.

2. I tried tightening the pivot screw just a tad, and nothing happened. So I tightened it more, and nothing happened. This went on for quite some time, till I gave up. I am not sure if it is the knife having problems or if I am doing something wrong.

Overall, it is a great knife though. Easily my favorite in my small collection. The wharncliffe blade is great for most cutting jobs, the steel holds an edge quite well, and the angle that the blade comes out of the handle at is perfect for jobs in the kitchen.

The Needs Work is a great knife for the money. I've got big mitts, so the ergonomics are a bit off for me. I scored mine on Ebay for $21.50 shipped, and it's currently sitting on my desk, fully disassembled, waiting for either Carbon Fiber, G10, or Micarta Scales; haven't decide which yet. I'll post pics when I'm done. Have fun with your new blade!

It's an excellent knife for the money. Good blade steel, reliable AO, comfortable pocket clip and a well done hollow grind on the blade. The wharncliffe shape has its limitations but for many EDC tasks it excels over more traditional blade styles. I found the handle too short, otherwise I'd likely still use one for my work knife. I do have larger hands though.

I just "Neutered" my NW, and it is fairly easy to open as a Flipper.

The torsion bar lies underneath the handle on the same side as the pivot screw. Make sure you heat the pivot screw to soften the loctite before attempting disassembly, as the opposite side will just spin in the handle material. You'll see what I mean if you remove the pocket clip; the hex head of the pivot will just spin, and you won't be able to remove the handle which covers the torsion bar. I experimented with the pivot by using a small rotary bit in my Dremel to groove out the pivot so a screwdriver can be used for assembly/disassembly. YMMV.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I've wondered about it myself. I was looking at mine and since it has the flipper and a detent on the lock spring, it seemed like it would work, but I wasn't totally sure.

You'll dig it...thats all I can say......everybody pretty much said all that there is to be said about it.

I just ordered a green and blue on from my Snap-On dealer.....a little pricey but worth it considering I havnt seen the colored ones any where else.
I paid $29 at one of my favorite knife sites....found it for $23 at another site after ordering.....good deals still exsist!!
Enjoy

extremelean: Got a link for the Grn. & Blue knife from Snap-On? I didn't see anything on their website. Thanks.
